    • Weird Stellar

I was working on EV Destroyer 2.0 last night, when this weird stellar popped up. It is put as the last stellar you were landed on. It has reasource ID 239, and there is no real stellar with that ID. I want to make a new steller and change the ID so it will be 239, but EV-Edit won't do it. Anyone know what I can do?

Is this an EV, EVO or EVN plugin?

If for EV: buy Nova. Download the EV Classic TC for Nova. Use the great tools available for use with EVN.

If for EVO: buy Nova. Download the EVO TC for Nova. Use the great tools available for use with EVN.

If for EVN: Don't use EV-Edit. Ever. Use w00t Tools (if on Mac) and the various all-in-one editors that have been coming out.

Are you crazy ??!! Do not ever use EV-Edit! It's more full of bugs than a bee nest! At the time I quickly realised it would be easier to enter data with ResEdit and the templates (I'm quite used to such things, having used a Apple IIe as old as me at 7...). You can do it. And when I think that Ben Chess (he commited EV-Edit, right?) was actually asking us money for using EV-edit...

    • 1. I got a Centris 650, EV:O won't even run correctly!
      2. I've had a bad experience with ResEdit, I don't really want to use it.
      3. Got a better Editor?
      4. Will you answer my 1st question?

    • Not to be rude or anything, but...

Are you seriously asking how to make a spöb and change the RID?! Even with EV-Edit, it's easy as hell. Make a new spöb, and select Get Info. Change the RID to 239 or whatever you said, and...PRESTO!

By the way, trust me on this: EV-Edit is horrible. I've had occasions where it wouldn't even display the resource itself, despite the fact I knew it existed. If you're serious about making this plug-in (which I assume is for EVC), use ResEdit. Only a fool uses EV-Edit for EVC. The only editor you should use is ResEdit (save possibly missions, where Scheltama-V (sp?) is okay). You can pick any TC out there for EVC and I can almost guarantee the majority, if not all, of the work was done in ResEdit. If you find one that wasn't, chance are it turned out horribly. I can't say it enough: a serious EVC developer uses ResEdit. Period.

Zacha: Yep, that crazy man really did actually expect money. His initiative is great, but if it screws stuff up, ain't worth the effort.

(Has anyone ever even successfully made a STR# resource besides the Intro Text with EV-Edit, let alone a STR?)

      1. Ouch
      2. You might have to
      3. See 2
      4. See 3

All silliness aside, ResEdit is going to be your best bet. I'm not sure what the problem your experiencing is, exactly. The easiest thing for you to do will be to duplicate an existing spob resource in your plugin and assign it a new ID # (239 in this case). Then you need to set that spob's syst field to the syst you want it to be in. Next, make sure the syst you chose also says that spob #239 is present.

If you haven't really use ResEdit, I can provide you with specific info on what to do if you like. If you would like specific info, please post whether you have any spob and syst resources in your plugin and what IDs they cover; it'll help me give you specific instructions.

Oh, also let me know whether your copy of resedit has the templates for EV already

Not an issue, really. EVC had the Templates included in its Data file. Just pop it open, and poof, you can begin editing. Always what I did. 😉

(Of course, if you copy and paste the Templates in, it makes it a hell of a lot easier.)

I won't go as far as compairing EV-Edit to a war crime, but I did indeed choose the word on purpose.

ResEdit is indeed not that easy to use, but it's not that hard. Just begin by opening and observe the values used in the EV Data: the Price field is price in credits of the ship/outfit, the shield field is ten times the shield value shown in the info of the ship in the shipyard in the game, etc... Just open the Bible for the flags.

What the hell? EV-Edit was discontinued like three and a half years ago. What did you expect?

Also, Ben Chess wrote EV-Edit. Ben Spees wrote Harry. Different people!

Once again, sorry. I fear it won't be enough of my life to be sorry :frown:. Am I forgived, a least? -Goes edit out previous posts to remove possible calomny-

While I agree with the sentiment, I don't think that EV-Edit is even a possibility for EVN plugins.

    • Why are you guys dissing EV-Edit so much? I thought it was a great editor. Once I learned how to undo the damage it did with Resedit, and hacked the payment options, and... </sarcasm>

The system editor was pretty good though, I have to say. At least I remember it as good. Maybe I'm thinking of NovaBurst, ThorPrime's old Nova editor. (Too bad about that one).

But anyway, Destroyer, learn Resedit. It's really not that bad, especially with Novatools. Jut be sure not to try and open already open files with it, and learn to hit command-s frequently.

NovaBurst is still available. Just search for a post of his.

Yes, the system editor was good, with one drawback: it was buggy (big surprise there).

      Is the creator still around?

Maybe we can compile the list of bugs and see if they can be fixed. After all, we can never have enough good editors..
