    • Mantaray, you mentioned lighter weapons, 'flintlock pistols', to pick off enemy crew members. Even though they were not counted in the 'gun count' (when you described a warship, you told the number of guns on carriages it had, hence the 74-gun or 22-gun or whatever rating. The more guns, obviously, the more powerful the vessel.), smaller-caliber weapons were incredibly popular. Shorter ranged, and slightly more accurate, they were used for close combat, usually to attack enemy gun crews and Marines before they were able to board your ship. Also, you're talking of just having little guns, medium guns, and big guns. Wrong, my friend. Dead wrong. There were all different calibers of guns, measured in the weight in pounds of the shot they fired. (FYI, a 'shot' is a solid iron ball. Designed to put a big hole in the side of a ship, thus letting water in. This is why the U.S.S. Constitution is called 'Old Ironsides'. It was said that in combat, the shots bounced off of her like her sides were made out of iron.) I'm reasonably sure that they started at 6-pounders and went up from there. I'll have to check, so I'll get back to you on that. The smaller the gun, the smaller the ship they were mounted on. But I think the most popular sizes were 6-pounder (for Pinnaces, Sloops, and Schooners), 9-pounders (for the medium-sized trading vessels and small warships (Sloops and Schooners with bigger guns and less cargo space)), 12-pounders (for bigger trading ships and medium-sized warships (Barques and lighter Brigantines)), 15-pounders (for Galleons and medium-big warships (Frigates and such)), and I want to say 18-, 24-, 32-, and 44-pounders for Line-of-Battle ships. (BTW, this is where we get the name 'Battleship'.) Of course, bigger guns will be made later on. These are the stats for the War of 1812. But a 6-pound shot is about as small as anybody would have wanted to go. Remember, each gunmaker had their own different design, and each gun type had a different range capability: the range depended on how much powder you put in. Of course, if you put in too much powder... You don't want to think about that. But that's not such a bad idea... A low, (maybe 1%) chance that your guns will misfire, causing damage to your ship... Hrm... But I'll leave that to you. In any case, I hope I've helped you instead of confusing things too much.
Have a good weekend (what's left of it).

Actually, there's a slightly better way of doing this. With the multiple ModType/ModVal fields in Nova, you could use cargo space for everything. That is, no ships would have "mass" space. Instead weapons would decrease your cargo space (Make ModType2 a Cargo Expansion, and insert a negative value). You'd have to play around with some of the game windows, so that it didn't show "Mass: 0" on everything, but other than that, I think it would be a fine solution.

Or, I could just label Mass as "Magazine" and not worry about it. This would work because obviously a rowboat wouldn't need cannonballs.

Oh yes, a new picture is coming soon, when I finish the schooner...

    • You have to have a mission where you meet a pirate in the bar and he tells you that theres treasure buried on an island 3 systems north 5 systems west 1 system south ect.
Cause thats what Pirates did, as far as I know.

(puddle of drool) Oooh, and then not have the red arrow, so you'd still have to find the island, and the description could be just slightly wrong...and there are other pirates after the treasure...and...and... (/puddle of drool)

    • As I forgot to say so that first time around, this plugin looks ace

    • You could buy luxury items at certain ports that would "attract" crewmen, and increase your crew size.

      BTW, absolutely AWESOME plug

    • Just compliments, Mantaray, this plug is takin' off. I've only seen a few topics this popular, certainly none of mine. :frown: Best of luck to you, and when I clear my creative block I'll post an idea.....WHIRLPOOLS! Sorry, just thought of something. Whirlpools could be like wormholes: you go in one end, and pop out the other. Illogical, yes, but it could work.

      Pimps at Sea?

I dunno, I don't know what you're talking about... I can do Escape From Monkey Island, if you want. 🙂

Incidentlly, I found a few books at the library, which will help tremendously. I'll be adding some mission related pers's. Fun, fun, fun! (/me love the pers resource, because it's the most wacky resource of them all)

Unrelated: Lemme see, how many times in this topic have I changed my signature...

    • First off, this plug looks awesome.

Second, an idea that came to my head as I was reading the topic. When a ship is destroyed, the major explosion would actually be a spďn of the ship sinking, while the minor explosions could actually small explosions, (gunpowder exploding).

      Hope that helps/makes sense. 🙂

    • The great thing about this is you could have so many govts. The english, the spanish, the french, various pirates. There were so many factions in the caribbean.

    • I was thinking about the islands... what if you had a stellar under the island that was hostile and deadly named Coastline or Reef. It would try to shot you if it had a weapon, so give it a "repel beam" or something so only fast, reckless ships get to the deadly part. The one you land at is slightly bigger than the radius of the beam, maybe a dock.

(edit) new ideas: undersea deadly rocks/reefs. buy a special tech to see them!
replace asteroids with flocks of birds or fish, whales, scoop and sell.(/edit)

      Fun, isn't it? 🙂

That didn't confuse me a bit, although gold probably would be accepted wider. It would be kinda cool if you could have multiple money types that you were able to exchange for each other somewhere, but I don't think that would be possible...

Where exactly do you rename the money? is it in STR#?

    • I have a great idea for how you could do waves. Simply change the asteroid graphic and you're done. One problem with this would be that when you shot, you would hit the 'wave.' I don't know if you could change that.

STR# ID 2002 - it's labled "misc strings." It's where you change most of that stuff. At least it was , but ATMOS changed the STR#s around in 1.0.2. Very annoying.

And Captain Hector is shooting me again. What's the deal with that? My plugs work fine, it's very strange.

      .

What do you guys think of varying water colors, depending on the system? If I can pull it off, I could probably get the Caribbean Sea's water to a light blue, and the mid-Atlantic a deep dark blue. (such as the color in the screenshot.) I think that would be cool.

Yeah, I like that idea. A green-blue (or maybe even reddish, I think I've heard of that) near coasts and a deeper blue farther out. On the other hand, you could also add green sea around you coasts as part of the spöb's graphic.

    • This looks absolutely AMAZING.

You could make larger islands with several ports on them by having spobs with matching borders that you would put next to each other. (Pardon my spelling.. damn sticky keyboard.)

I forget who suggested "supplies" instead of "fuel", but expanding on that, instead of a ramscoop you could have fishing lines/nets.

Just don't forget, somewhere far out in the ocean, the lost continent of R'lyeh and the Dread Cthulhu dreaming unspeakable visions in his sunken crypt outside time...
