    • Novatools and Resedit

Ok, i got everything working, i am running windows xp, emulator with os 8.1, working great.
Now question is how do i use novatools and resedit together?
I've tryed to read the bible but i dont understand it much, and i have a text file with alot of ids of weapons and upgrades, but i get confused in the part were it says size next to id number. When you double click that and it says as if id "128", size "something big" and name "shuttle" it opens up a new window(like hex editor?).
Anyways in that window i dont now wat to type in and i cant read it, can someone give me a hand and write alittle tutorial?
      Thank you for your help

      Hows that funny?

    • First of all, you should read the bible, and try while you're reading, otherwise you wont understand a thing.
Second, you must copy all of Novatools resources in the ResEdit preferences located in System->preferences->ResEdit preferences (open both in ResEdit and then copy-paste).
Then, when you make a new plug, you should have a resource called TMPL. If you dont have this, make it, or make a plugin with EVONE, and use that as a sjabloon (sp?). If you have done all this, and still have problems, then feel free to ask.

    • I cant find the preferences, can you help me find them? What do you mean by system?

    • He was assuming you were using Mac OS X. In Mac OS 8, you need to look in preferences folder, which should be located under Hard Disk (or your HD name, 😄 perhaps?) > System Folder > Preferences > ResEdit Preferences. If that fails, search for "ResEdit Preferences" on the computer, and navigate to the file after it tells you the directory information.

First off, select ResEdit in OS8, and go to the menu File (perhaps Edit in 😎 > Get Info (or use command - I as the hotkey). Here, go to the memory section, and increase the preffered memory to around 10,000 KB, and the minimum to around 8000. Now, open the file mentioned above in ResEdit, and also open the NovaTools 1.0.0 file. Copy all resources in NovaTools into the ResEdit Preferences, save, and quit. Launch ResEdit again, and when you create a new Nova resource, it should open in the NovaTools editor, instead of the Hexadecimal editor.

Vortrex, EVONE will not run in OS 8.1.

    • I think its working right but, there is no more ship resource...
      Whats with that?

      Hahahahaha.
      Hows that funny?

    • Huh? What do you mean by that? are you looking at a pre-existing file? If so, then that data-file or plugin may not have any ship resources. You should be able to create new ship resources with the novatools editor though, without problems.
Not all nova datafiles contain the same kinds of resources - they break it up into smaller files.

    • Well i think i did something wrong then.
Here are the following steps i did:
I put novatools in the resedit folder and then opened it with resedit; now i opened my system folder, went to preferences, found resedit preferences and opened it(it opened with resedit).
Now i copyed and pasted every single icon from novatools to the preferences, then saved and quit the preferences, closed novatools and opened up resedit once again.
Now when i make a new file and " create new source" i scroll down to where ship resource should be and its not there.
Now did i do something wrong or what?

P.S I really appriciate your help, thanks alot 🙂

It seems you installed Novatools correctly, yet it looks like you don't have the TMPLs installed. Not a problem, you can type the resource names in yourself, you don't really need them. 🙂 This is much faster than scrolling through that mess of resource types, so it couldn't hurt to learn it. In the textbox to the right of the list, you can type in the resource type there. One thing you should memorize is the umlaut, which is used in every Nova resource. To get this specific character, hit option-u, and then type the vowel you need. IE: Ship resource, shďp (s-h-option+u-i-p). Outside of the emulator, you will need to hold down the Alt key, and type the ASCII value of the character on the keypad. You can find a very good ascii chart (url="http://"http://www.asciitable.com/")here(/url).

      Good luck!

    • I dont quite get how do type in the ship resource.
Could you explain in alittle easyer way :D.
What is option on a windows keyboard in a emulator?

      Hows that funny?

    • Wouldnt it be easier to just download the templates and copy+paste them into the plug?

    • Where can i get the templates?

      ------------------
      Hahahahaha.
      Hows that funny?

    • I know the w00tware page has them (the same place you dled novatools from), in the form of a bible and templates download. I think the bible there is out of date (but the templates arent). (url="http://"http://w00tware.ev-nova.net")http://w00tware.ev-nova.net(/url)
There might also be something on the addons page.

    • Er........What do i do with the templates now?

Copy them into any plug you intend to make and save the plug. That will make the template available when you edit the plug. There are occasions when the template is more useful for editing than NovaTools, such as editing jünk resources. I'd go into more detail, but I've got a plane to catch. Back to uni. Yay. Woohoo. Feel the enthusiasm.

It should be the windows key. If that does not work, just hold down alt and type the ASCII value of the character you want (ie, alt+132 is ä).

Typing these things in is easier than you think, just type in the letters. For the shďp resource, just type in the following. "s", "h", hold "Alt" and type 139 on the numeric keypad, then "p". It is similar for the other resource types.
