      I need help... First of all I need help building plugins for the PC... I tried to make one for a friend called a Trading Psyonic engin that adds a coupld of jumps per jump so that you can have an easier time while trading but at a steep price of tonnage and credits... However... When I got it to him... through E-mail He couldn't use it. Also I would like to know what kind of stuffing agent I should use when I stuff things for the PC... Gzip would never work and neither would stuffit... I think... .sit's are unreadable to PCs... I need to get one of my own... Grr... I could really use a registered copy of EV nova for PC and a pc to wirk out my problems. Hmm... Any advice on any of this Jarbled mess that I reluctantly call a forum topic?

      You can use Zipit to zip plugins for PC.

      I believe that there is actually a Stuffit for PC, though I've never tried it.

      Zip is the universal PC compression.
      The PC standard for unzipping is Winzip. However, Winzip does not come as part of the Windows operating system install with PCs, so only power users will have it. You can get it on pretty much any magazine cover CD, though.

      Can't help with your other queries.

      I'd be interested to know from Ambrosia how many registered PC users there are, though. If I was hypothetically thinking of releasing a plugin of the large kind, I would hypothetically be interested to know if it was worth releasing it on PC. However, this is totally hypothetical so please no emails asking for release dates or beta-copies.

      You see... I have my mac and I have Nova tools and res edit and EVONE and I am trying to make a small plugin for a friend of mine that wants it have he has a PC.... Is it possible for me to Zip something for the PC? Gzip will not work unless the PC has UNIX I beleive or a really buggy software for windows... Will my Stuffit make Zip files? oh well... I gess I should try some other stuff for now... If anyone can help me in making this work on my comp I would be happy.

      The stuffit standard edition has a number of drag and drop modules, one of which is "DropZip."

      Have you tried using EVONE to save the plug-in as a windows version? Zipping a Mac plug-in well not work because it nukes the resource fork. (just like sending it uncompressed through email does.)

      Yes, there is StuffIt for windows, but the most recent version (8.0) ditched the option to preserve the resource fork. You have to use an older version such as 7.5 to be able to preserve the resource fork.

      If I use Drop Zip and E-mail my plug in to my friend will it work? Will the decrytion be the same so that he gets all the resource forks?

      Al well as I am on the topic... I cannot get my plugin to work... For some reason it does not like me. And will not function.... Guess I aught to get some more learning down from the Nova Bible... Or I can E-mail what I have to someone here and they can finish what I have built... What I was trying to do was build an engine... My desc really sux.. But anyway it was an engine that would give you multiple jumps... I think I have it set to 5 jump.. And it costs 40k cred's scaling and 3 tons scaling. I was trying to make something that would help people doing trade routs that take time. And other times missions but at larger costs to the larger vessels... I need to see what it does to a laviathan but I can figure that out after I manage to get the thing to actually work... all I have right not besides the template... (I am using EVONE BTW) and the galaxy is an o¨tf folder with the engine in it and a Desc folder with the desc in it... That is all... Do I need Spobs? Do I need Crons? If I do..> I will hunker down in my math class and read through it then. Grr... I hate reading that thing... Gives me a headache.. The NOVA bible..

      Oh well.> Thnx for the help... I think This plug might be more trouble than it is worth... Thanks in advance and Night all... I am going to bed.

      Zip does not preserve the resource fork, so zip will not work for transfering a mac plugin. Once the plugin has been brought to a pc and converted to the pc format (.rez), the .rez plugins can be freely compressed with zip or any other format, as the pc plugin files (.rez) do not have a resource fork.

      Macintosh plugins are much more delicate - ONLY stuffit or macbinary format will preserve the resource fork. For bringing stuff from mac to pc, you must use stuffit to compress, send it, and they must decompress it with stuffit for pc 7.5. Alternately, they can be FTPed to an ftp server running on a pc, assuming the client is smart enough to send them in .bin format. (for my plugdev, i have a mac connected to my pc, which runs an ftp server for this purose. I make the plug and use Fetch to upload it to my pc.

      One thing I guess I forgot to add... I AM USINg EVONE Making a WINDOWS (.rez) plugin for my friend... Because I am doing this Can I send it through E-mail without compression or do I have to compress it somehow. I know that MAC plugins need to be stuffed to save the resource forks and stuff... But what about sending my .Rez file?

      As well I still would like to know whether I need any Crons or Spobs or things like that to make the plug work... Or do I just need the buy random and availability set?

      I know that there is a Hyper-Etheric Engine but it was not for the PC... And my friend is very computer illiterate... and I would hate to make his head hurt any more... He is a PC drone btw if that explains anything. I did not like some things from the Hyper Etheric engine and I could not find anything that would transfer anything into a PC plug from a MAC one. If there is something there would be many less headaches and I could E-mail my friend all the PC plug-ins he wants.

      Any help is much appreciated!

      You shouldn't need to compress, but it probably wouldn't hurt.

      It should work just fine with the correct tech level and buy random set.

      EVONE can save any Mac EV: Nova plug-in as a win version by going to the file menu and choosing Save Plugin As. (also works for saving win plug-ins as Mac ones)
