    • Vell-os Capture Help!


      Okay I went through the ship resources and gave every occurence of the vell-os ships and wraith ships a crew of 1, I checked the resource ID and linked them with approriate upgrade costs and to the right ID numbers,

      now for some reason when I captured a Wraith ship I was able to upgrade it fine, but when I captured a Vell-os Dart I wasnt.?

      is there a hidden flag or something I'm missing in the Ship resource? because I've checked everything I could find and according to everything I know it should have worked.

      Also: after going through the entire listing of ships and changing the values I still run into occasional vell-os darts that cant be disabled with disable only weapons, no matter how powerful they are! (I think these are ones that are being launched from bays but not sure)

      but I know I changed the resource on all of the occurances of Vell-os ships in the resource so unless there is a flag I'm missing? or do I need to use a fresh pilot for that kind of change to take effect?

      these are the only occurances of the Vell-os ships I could find: 173-175 (Npc versions) 381-383 (player versions)

      Am I missing something obvious and stupid here?

      Actually, yes. There's a flag on all physical ship, and the telepathic (Vell-os) ones don't have it. That's why you can't buy anything else than the marines platoon, if you're in a Vell-os ship. Sadly, I don't remember what the flag is.

    • There is a contribute bit set on all the non-vellos ships- A5 in Novatools, I think. This is what keeps them from buying outfits. To upgrade the Vellos ships, you must go in and set this bit- look at any other ship just to be sure.

      As far as the disable problem goes, I haven't looked, but I am almost certain that the AI vellos have 0 armor. This would make them impossible to disable by any means.

      nope. Tried both of those. Set the A5 contribute flag, checked the armor rating. even tried removing the Avail bit test. Nothing I've tried seems to be working. this begins to annoy me. I must be missing something.

      edit again: I got it to work. I recopied and changed the resources again, still not sure exactly what I missed, but it does work now, so whatever I missed I got it the second time around. thanks for all the constructive advice.
