      With the release of EV:C for Nova, the oppertunity to take advantage of some of the new engine's features presents itself. I propose that a contest be held, or rather a series of contests to redisign various portions of the old EV:C's graphics to take advantage on the new engine features. Each contest could encompas a small group of the ingame items. Perhaps one contest for the rebel ships, one for the confederate, and the winner would be the series of ships that looked the best, thus maintaining inter-govermental design continuity. When all elements of the contest had been completed, they could then be compiled nto a plugin, and released. I think it might be fun, and would give some of the graphics designers on the board a chance to hone their skills.
      Anyway, an idea, C&C; welcome.

      Well...I am already working on such a project myself (not a contest, but an EVC -> EVN graphical update), and I will possibly be collaborating with a couple other Image Gallery artists (once I get back to them). Of course, there's nothing wrong with having a choice of plugins, but I know of at least 2 and possibly 3 such graphical update projects under way already.

      speaking of the EV aliens, i went around from all the old plugs, and gathered about 10 diffrent aliens. its quite impressive, seeing all thos diffrent kinds. better then the single fighter, and the medium sized one. also, i found in a EV version of Magma. not the awsome one for EVO, but the awsome one for EV. i though the medium sized alied ship looked a bit weird. but it was big, which was cool. 🙂

      I think my partner and I would be interested in joining. That link that esw posted is just a basic top down view of some of the images. KMQ, the guy actually doing the graphics, is quite the perfectionist so he is continually tweaking and adding to them. And if you think those images are good, the shipyard views will blow you away :p.

      My idea was to combine various artists’ skills into a conglomerate work that could then be released. Each competing artist could post say all of one government's ships, and perhaps a side bar for each government's ships. Then various other parts of the interface could also be redesigned, for example redesigning the various outfits or landing pictures. And the crowning competition could be perhaps for the gambling clips, for the best animations, racing or otherwise. I personally don't think just because Jericon's (admittedly excellent) plug-in is going to be released that the rest of us couldn’t have a go. I also see it as an opportunity not just to put forth a new version of the same ships, but perhaps to totally redesign the ships, at each artist’s whim.
      I don’t know if the interest is there, but I think that it would be a fun project for the whole artist community.
