    • Help Needed on Converting...

Ok, I've been trying to convert MAGMA so it works with the Override port. EVONE did a fine job of that, kudos to Arios, but now I'm having severe troubles trying to convert the .PICTs to... whatever it is Nova uses, and place them in the plug. EnRLE converted them pretty easily, only cluttering my desktop, but now I don't know how to actually get them into the plug. I've tried to do it both in ResEdit with NovaTools (I had no idea what I was doing) and EVONE (same). Any help would be appreciated... however, if I could avoid people just telling me to read a manual, that would be nice. Chances are, I wouldn't understand a single word.

    • Use ResEdit to get the ID numbers of the picts and then give the RleD and Rle8 files the same ID numbers. Should be able to use the existing spin resources for that.

N.B. You only need the IDs for the base graphics, not the black and white masks, when you're giving the RleD and Rle8 files their IDs.

If you're still having trouble, mail me a couple of PICTs and RleD/Rle8s and I'll convert them then send them back with the exact steps I took. Though, if you do do that, I'm going to be away Sunday-Friday so the response may not be immediate. My email address is jonathanboyd@mac.com.

Actually, could you do them with (url="http://"http://dreamwave.evula.net/plugins.html#cf")Cold Fusion(/url)? Its graphics are already in thousands of colours inside the plug, but due to the old engine, only show in 256. However, if they were in the NOVA engine, they would show up in full colour! I would try but I dont know where to start!

It's pretty scimple/. Just download (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl/EnRLEDeRLE.sit?path=evn/utilities&file;=EnRLEDeRLE.sit")EnRLEDeRLE(/url) from (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evn&category;=utilities&display;=date&page;=1")the utility add-on pages(/url) and drag adn drop the plug. Set it to create separate files for Rle8 and RleD rather than each spin/shan though, otherwise you'll be deluges with files. Took me all of 5 minutes to download and convert everything. If you're still having trouble, I'll mail you the file (~5 MB) or stick it on my site. They look pretty sweet.

when the window comes up, about converting the PICTs, there will be four sections. the bottem right section "output files", is where you want to lool. instead of "One file per spin/shan", you will want to click on "One file per rle type". choose a location for the 2 diffrent Outfit files. this will make it so all the images are on one resource file. one for the rleDs, and a second one for all the rle8s.

a major opening and closing time saver.

go here for all your Res Edit Needs. NOTE: there are not Escape Velocity related items here. it is a site where you can find, and learn how to alter the apperance, and sometimes performance of your Mac. Change Dock poofs, startup, and login screens. Themes, diffrent iTunes skins, This site has it all.

In a related vein, never ask ConTex to export PICTs or RLEs. I did that once and the Finder locked up for several minutes while it dumped a couple of hundred files onto the desktop. Of course, it's probably mostly my fault for telling it to use the Desktop instead of another folder, but I wasn't expectign that to happen.

Maybe the lesson to be learnt here is don't do as I do, but rather as I do second time around.
