what programs do all these people who make the graphics for plugins use to make them? I need something that is not to terribly hard to use, and will run on a PC.

Okay.... Isnt too helpful though. All I managed to find was mention of Strata and mechanisto. Mechanisto doesnt run on a PC and is thus useless to me, and strata isnt free as they say (well, the free version can't save, which makes it pretty useless).
Anyone know of any program that would meet my needs?

There's a free 3-D graphics program called OpenFX (www.openfx.org) that is available for the PC. I've never heard about anyone using it for EV-style graphics but from what I've experienced it seems to be a pretty powerful program (although that doesn't make up for my immense lack of 3-D modeling skill :D).

As well, there was that Blender program mentioned earlier. It might be worth your while to check it out; I downloaded it and was overwhelmed by all the buttons and features. It'll be a while until I finish reading through the PDF user's guide.

You might need other programs to actually put the graphics in a format recognized by EV/EVO/EVN...

Maybe it's a Mac thing, but I'm using the Strata3D demo and I can save just fine ...

LightWave, Maya, Cinema4D, Electric Image/Universe 5, Hash, Mechanisto, Infini-D, Ray-Dream, POV-Ray, Bryce, MojoWorld, and more. Basically, if it has a Mac version, somebody here has used it to create something for EV at one time or another.

LightWave is an excellent choice, albeit a slightly expensive one. If you're strapped for cash, you might try POV-Ray (not exactly easy to use, but it's free) or try to get a copy of Infini-D (an old app, but it can still product some pretty (url="http://"http://dreamwave.evula.net/")cool stuff.(/url)) for Win.
