    • Planets anyone?

That's about the only thing I can do, so does anybody need any?

      (Just an example)

    • Are those three the only things you can do, or are planets the only thing you can do?

If its the latter then how much free time do you have?

    • Na, that were just examples of the planets I did so far.
With a stary background and a lense flare. Just to show that I can do Rings, Continents, Clouds and such stuff. And those were actually my first tries at it.
      Not that hard actually.

Free time? Well, depends. How many do you need? And in what format? No stary skys in the background I guess. And transparent background at that. No problem.
And what kinds. I recently did a gas-giant (Jupiter-like), so thats possible, too.

    • Photoshop 7, eh? Not bad. But the lens flare destroys the image ... photoshop lens flares are terrible and should not be used.

    • It's still the fastest way to get something resembling a sun.

      Just did another one. (url="http://"http://jochen.holle.bei.t-online.de/Bilder/planet7b.jpg")http://jochen.holle....er/planet7b.jpg(/url)
No background and no lense flare, thats the way the planets look while I am doing them

    • I wonder if this should be displayed in the EV Image Gallery Forum?

    • Nah- he's offering help for a plug, not just showing off what he can do.

Looking good JT- If nobody jumps all over your offer, you could always do a bunch of planets and make a "planet yard" or something similar.

    • Yes, thats true.
I don't want to show off. (Well, a little bit maybe)
Since it is not that hard, not really a special accomplishment. Anybody could learn with maybe half an hour of spare time.

I just like doing planets and wanted to see if anyone had a use for them. So I had a reason to do some more.

A question still remains. If I would do a planet galery for EV, EVO and EVN, what format would those pictures be needed in?

well that aint exactly nice for the guys at the evo image gallery

even though 99% of the images are never finished or never appear in a plug

    • I would never compare myself with the guys on the images board.

Up until yesterday I did not even know there was such a board. And I just looked at it. What I do and what they do is simply another class completly.
Those pictures are incredible. You can see that lots of work and lots of love went into them.
Whereas planets are rather easy. Takes about 15 minutes to do one. (5 is it's just a globe with texture, 20 if it is one with continents and clouds and rings)

Not that I don't love doing them, it's just that they are not that good. (Or that hard to do, either)

I just thought that maybe someone could use what I like doing.
That is why I posted here and not over there.

    • Well, if you can produce planets of that quality consistantely then e-mail me and I'll gladly take you on board the team for Factions. There are two graphics artists already but someone to do planets would lighten the load. Incedently can you do landing pics as well (I can but I just want to know what you can do)

As for a Planet Yard you could ship them either as Photoshop files (the best idea) for people to convert themselves, or in EV/O format (spins and picts files) which can be converted to Nova format if needed.

No, thats off of a tutorial for photoshop seven .. I don't recall the address, though.

As for lens flares: Sure, its fast and easy, but it'd work better if done in a 3d program - photoshop's lens flares are usuallly overkill. They take most of the interest away from the image and draw your attention the flare, unless its really small. Which, in that particualr picture, it should be, seeing as how you're looking from behind the furthest planet in that system. You could argue, that the planets are really close, or the sun is really big, however, the planets would be a lot more dead and lacking atmosphere. The last planet there might have an atmosphere, but it'd have to be more like Venus.

Don't ever use lens flares unless they're needed. Trust me.

    • @Starbridge: EMail is on the way

@Admiral Zombat: I see what you mean. And of course you are right. Apart from that, that was just a try. And also, if you want to look at is from the purly scientific way, the "sun" (Lense flare) is way to big and the planets way to close together. I was not thinking about accuracy when I made that one.

      edit:
Oh, the URL of the tutorial. I used that one as a basic guideline.
