I recently posted a topic about making an uber cheat and it was kindly suggested that i make it myself.

However i seen in the evn faq that windowz users can not make plug-ins.

Is there any way of me being able to make them (without using a mac)or any plans in the future?

As far as I know, you can't make plugins with windows.

Yes, there are plans for a windows plugin maker/editor - but nothing firm as far as dates go.

I'm currently engaged in some experiments - which are, at the moment, going quite well - which if successful could lead to some form of a Windows port of MissionComputer. It is, however, far to early to promise delivery, let alone offer a specific release date.

I think it'll be a while- but of course, even when there is an editor- the graphics issues still remain. Cheaters will become easy to make, but what about full sized quality TCs?

Too bad Lightwave is so expensive.. and hard to learn.

What they probably mean is that there are no editors for windows yet

however i already have basilik II installed but i am not too sure what programs i need or how i would go about it. Is there stuff in the evn documetation to tell me how to do it?

The only thing from the documentation that you could use would be the EVN bible. Other than that, the link I posted also has info on what software you need to get started making plugs. At the very least you need Stuffit Expander and an editor like ResEdit or MissionComputer. Another good thing to have is the mac version of EVN so you can look at the data files to get ID numbers and see how they did things.

Lightwave isn't hard to learn... and if you aren't selling any of the graphics, I don't see why downloading it off the net would be a problem (unless you have dial-up lol). I won't post any links or anything since even downloading it is illegal.

There are countless lightwave tutorials on the net, they're easy to find too. Just type "Lightwave Tutorial" at yahoo or google... or some other search engine.

Personally I've only experimented with it in small ways, not nearly enough to make graphics for a plugin, though from what I've seen, I won't have much of a choice since no one has applied for my Wing Commander development team. Some might say I need to prove that it won't become vaporware so I guess I can understand. Though I won't let it be... even if I have to buy a mac and do it all myself and have it done in time for 2010...

Until then, I'm patiently waiting for a windows editor to come out. I've heard of no actual editor yet and I won't ask since this topic has already answered that question.

Lightwave 3d is also one of the leading 3d-modeling programs competing with other big names like 3d Studio Max, infact, Lightwave 3d was used extensively to make the awe-inspiring scenes and space battles in Space: Above & Beyond, and also in Babylon 5 and Crusade.

Since it's the only 3d program I've ever used I won't comment on whether it's easier or better than the other 3d programs.

What you are doing is that you are creating a world where there are mac plugs and then there are PC plugs that can't be played on a mac. That is a REALLY bad idea. There will have to be a separate add-ons page etc... and that is not going to happen. If you have some form of conscious in you DO NOT create an editor that only outputs .rez files. It will only TEAR APART the plug-in community.

I'm sorry if I sound too rude and don't take it personal but a .rez editor must never be allowed to exist.

The way I see it, those of us that are truely interested in contributing to the EV/O/N community but are stuck without a macintosh, could easily use a rez editor (if it's easier to make than a cross-platform editor) then send the rez files over to a person that has a macintosh and have them convert it to a macintosh plug-in. It's a temporary solution, obviously, but it would help us get into the modding community more quickly, before a new version of EV is released, therefore making EVN a thing of the past.

Such a project might also call upon a straight converter from rez to mac-plug-in format, wich in turn could provide a wealth of information into how one could make an editor that instantly spits out macintosh compatible plug in files that keep their resources even on an IBM...

Sometimes, if you can't take the direct aproach, take the longer route... you'll find more along the way too.

I back you 100% on perceiving a coming rift in the EVN community. An editor making .bin files is a solution that will work with the existing Mac and PC engines.

I still feel that a better solution would be to make the Mac engine read .rez files. Even if mburch isn't the one to implement such changes, it seems that something needs to be done.

I wish Ambrosia would weigh in on this.

The WHOLE POINT is that , that is NOT POSSIBLE. Unless a convertor from .rez to a Mac plug-in is made , and if its not made the EXACT same time as the .rez editor (or even before it) , you will create a rift , with there being PC only plug-ins. The only possible route with a .rez editor is that a developer (or two) create the ".rez to Mac plug-in" convertor AND the .rez editor as part of the same project.
