Actually, as you may be aware, I strongly object to cheat plugs. This is not to say, however, that I find all 'unbalanced' or absurd plugs objectionable - if it unbalances the game but does it in some creative way, or there is some plot reason for the unbalance, that's fine. (I'd welcome an evnova version of that plug where you flew a giant plunger... the memories...)
That said though, I think it's really about time that ASW bans 'plain' cheat plugs that add no real content from their server.
When it comes down to it, someone using an 'ultimate cheat plug' is just watching pretty pictures, not playing a game. A much better idea would be to use a screensaver - it comes free with your mac

I was going to make a Nova plug that replaces the graphics with household appliances (remember Hardware Wars?), but real life set in, and I didn't have time. Maybe later in the summer...

That's always the reason, isn't it? I was going to make a plugin that replaced the ships with junk food (my first plugin was a pizza slice replacement for the Confed Frigate). Somehow I never got round to it.
As far as cheat plugins go:
I say, go for it. Make the Ultimate Übersuperduper l33t Cheat Plugin. It'll boost your understanding of how EV works. But please, don't submit it to Ambrosia's servers. I'm sure EVula has more important things to do then add another "This plugin adds the ability to get all outfits, ships, and everything for 0cr. Oh, and it has lots of uber-weaposn too!!!! and you can get missions that give you 25 million cr." plugins. Like, perhaps, adding real plugins that make the game more fun.

I agree with your post in general. Heck I've got dozens of cheats that I've created for myself, but I would never inflict them on the Nova community solely for the purpose being able to say "I posted an awesome plug" (awesome - Riiight). Having said that, let me play devil's advocate here for moment and do a little reality check.
Let's say ASW does as you propose. Who's going to decide what gets posted and what doesn't? You? Me? EVula? Andrew? A committee comprised of some group of people (that'll work - NOT)? And then whoever is making the decisions has to base those decisions on some set of criteria. Where do you draw the line that says this plug's a worthless cheat and that one's a cheat but worthy of being posted? Can't you just imagine the whining and complaining and moaning from those "developers" of the unposted cheats?
OK, enough reality. Yes, there is a high garbage content on the addons pages. But the method used right now is the still the most practicable one. Post everything that comes in and let the user community decide whether they want to use "cheats" or not. Although I would like to see more people actually rate the plugs they've downloaded. If you take the time to do so you'll find that the ratio of rating-votes to downloads is abysmally low.
It's not a perfect world, never has been, never will be. Just shine it on and make the best of what there is.
