Hello there, I have never made a plugin but I am a quick learner. Can somebody tell me what utilities I need to start making plugins? Hopefully with a readme or manual?

I would suggest going to (url="http://"http://www.ev-nova.net/")http://www.ev-nova.net/(/url) and download MissionComputer, ResEdit, and NovaTools from the links on the front page. Those are the basic tools for editing resources. If you plan on doing extensive work with system placement, check out (url="http://"http://www.ariossoftware.com/")EVONE(/url), which has a neat system editor.
As for tutorials, take a look at the (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/addons.html")EVN Addons(/url) section, and go under the Guides and Utilities sections and browse around a bit. Download whatever you think will help.
Good luck!

I would firstly edit a few plugins just to get the feeling of it. Look in my sig for the URL of the addons page

"TutorialsInS" on the addons page is an okay tutorial, although it doesn't deal at all with mďsns, which are the most complicated resource.. If you're interested in making ships, though, it gives you the basics of how to get them into Nova, and also some basics on systems and spöbs.
Have you looked through the Nova Bible?

...and yes, I'm odd.

After you read CE Nova Recorce Bible and have loaded Nova Tools, the templetes are self explanitory for the most part. I would try coping(sp) a beam resorce and outfit and changing the stats and color and rename it. Beams are easy. Also, fixes are easy. Like my (url="http://"ftp://ftp.ambrosiasw.com/pub/evn/plugins/Storm_Chaingun.sit")storm chaingun fix.(/url) I made it as a followup to (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum26/HTML/010487.html")this(/url) topic. All it does is makes the storm chaingun go the same speed as the storm chain gun or something like that since the storm chaingun uses more ammo for longer reloades and less shots. Those are my suggestions!

And from where might I procure Mechanisto or Strata 3D?

Strata can be downloaded from... strata.com I think. Mechanisto is on the addons page for EV i'm pretty sure. Just do a google search.
Don't expect to produce top of the line stuff, but have a bash at it, the results are worthwhile. I managed to get pretty good with mechanisto, and some people have done some amazing stuff with it, but the interface is hardish to learn and nowhere near as shiny as Strata's. Thats why people tend to go for it as their first program... I don't think they should though, because mechanisto is pretty damn good for beginners. Just get someone to explain about order of transforms and you'll be okay. It's a real exercise in logic, but it's worth learning. Get both programs, but don't disregard mech just cause it has a stark interface.
