    • Nova classmates & misn AvailStel 30xxx

I was trying to create a sneak-in system, and I have run into a problem.

The Nova bible says that misn AvailStel 30xxx should make the mission available at any stellar of the specified government OR its classmates.

I have tried this two ways with the generic passenger missions, but I can't get any missions to appear in my sneak system.

First, I created a new government for my system and set its class to 1, the Federation class. This didn't appear to work. So I tried giving my new government its own class, 22, and added class 22 as a second class to the Federation government. This doesn't appear to work either.

Has anybody used the 30xxx AvailStel, or does anybody know how to set up the classes in the governments to make this work?

Or am I missing something else I have to set in the mission, spob, or syst resources?

    • What are you using for programming? If you have NovaTools or MC adding that 30 in front isn't necessary. Just choose the appropriate option from the drop down menu and insert the desired govt ID. If you're not using either of these, I reccomend that you do.

    • I use Resedit.

The missions, governments, spob, and syst are all in a plug. The mission AvailStels have been changed from 10000 to 30000. The spob and syst are new (in the relatively open area between Kania and Tichel). They both have a new government. The government is also new.

As I said, I tried the government two ways. First I tried setting the new government class to 1 (one), the class of the Federation. When that didn't work, I gave the new government a new class, 22, which is not being used currently in Nova. I then copied the Federation government into the plug and added 22 as a second class for the Federation. That didn't work either.

The spob is a full service stellar, that is it has a bar, shipyard, outfitter, and commodity exchange. I have not had any missions appear in the bar, as well as none in the BBS, but that is no guarantee of anything because in the early stages not many missions show up in the bar anyway. Since I have been changing the values in the resources and retrying each time with a new pilot, I have not tried to play long enough to pick up any string.

What I would like to be able to do is have an independent system near the conjunction of Federation, Auroran, and Polaris space which would offer the generic missions for cargo and passengers into all three spheres. This is a form of cheat that doesn't require a special ship. Since it is not allied to any other government, the system is not affected by your status with other governments. If you can pick up delivery missions into any of the three spheres, you can travel around a bit easier because you have some landing spots to refuel even in hostile territory. But you still have to contend with hostile ships, so it doesn't make anything too easy.

      ------------------

    • First I suggest installing NovaTools into ResEdit. It makes things much simpler and straight-forward. Next, check the random factors and any mission availablility bits.

    • I will try to refrain from using the language nI think you deserve..

However, the application used to modify the resources has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the content results.

I have been modifying EV, EVO, and EVN resources for some time now. I have my own WORKING ports of at least twenty TCs and plug-ins from EV and EVO running in the Nova environment.

The problem I described originally, and expanded on to mrxak, has nothing whatsoever to do with applications. It is a problem within Nova, if it is a problem at all. And if you understood what you read, you would also know that I know what is in the resources, and I expounded that knowledge to mrxak.

If you are going to comment onm posts, please read them, think about them, and try to understand what they are about first..

      ------------------

    • I had a quick look into this and verified that that particular part of the code is indeed working correctly, so I suspect your problem lies elsewhere.

    • Matt,

I have uploaded a basic test plug for Nova 1.0.4 to the Nova add-ons page.

As you can see from the plug, the Federation classmate does not show the missions in the BBC, although interestingly enough some Auroran missions are appearing.

This plug has the new syst and spob with four classes, 22, 23, 24, and 26. The Federation has had 22 added as a second class, the Auroran Empire with 23, the Polaris with 24, and the Rebels with 26.

The Rebel and Polaris missions are conditioned so that may or may not be why they don't show up, but the Federation missions should show up in a new pilot.

That's not the appropriate place to put test files - it may be a week before it shows up, and it's not of interest to the general public. Please use email as previously mentioned.

    • How do I use e-mail? I know how to add an attachment, but where do I send it? Should I send it to Ambrosia?

Also, still experimenting: I tried changing the TravelStel to 30000, i.e. AvailStel 30000 - TravelStel 30000. The missions disappeared from the BBC in Viking. The debuglog says 'mission failed to find a valid nontransient random stellar of govt 128 or a government of the same class'.

The 128 government currently has its normal class 1, and a second class of 22. The new government I created for the new system and spob has classes 22, 23, 24, and 26.

      ------------------

    • I've used this selector before and it seemed to work. I'm not sure what you mean by "sneak system", but if it involves the use of system visbits, nothing will ever show up using this option. Only idea I can think of.

Random mission destinations are never assigned to planets that could disappear before the mission is complete.

    • But Matt, these are the generic missions. If the destination of 10000 doesn't cause a problem, then (presumably) 30000 shouldn't cause a problem.

i.e. this is changing 'Carry Passengers' from AvailStel 10000 to TravelStel 10000 to 'Carry Passengers' from AvailStel 30000 to TravelStel 30000.

There have been no changes in visbits for the systems in Nova 1.0.4, and the missions carry only the original visbit of !b424.

The engine just won't pick a certain syst randomly if it could disappear before the mission completes. It might become impossible to complete the mission, in which case you would have to abort it to get it out of your mission list. If you want a mission to a syst that might disappear, have the mission be specifically to that syst. On a side note, this is why the only "Delivery to Earth" mission in the game is the Vell-Os mission. The Sol syst has visbits, so it is never picked for random missions.

Or did I completely misunderstand your problem?

      (/B)(/QUOTE)

Yup, you did. The Ferry Passenger missions are generic, that is they always appear. There are only two distinctions. b424 is turned on when you are in a Vell-os ship in the Vell-os string. That ncb stops the general passenger missions, and turns on the passengers missions that say they want to travel in a Vell-os ship.

Nevertheless, there are always some kind of passenger missions available in Federation space (AvailStel 10000). Most of them keep you in Federation space (TravelStel 10000).

The 30000 AvailStel and TravelStel designator should simply change the availability and destination spobs from government 128 to government 128 AND classmates of government 128. If you don't change anything else, in misn, spob, syst, or any other resource, then if the missions are available with AvailStel 10000, they should be equally available with AvailStel 30000. And similarly with destinations.

What started all this is that I added a new system and planet (linked to the system Viking is in) and I wanted the generic missions available at the new planet. So I created a new government for the new system and spob and gave it four new (unused) classes - 22, 23, 24, and 26. I then moved the governments for the Federation-128, the Auroran Empire-129, the Polaris-130, and the Rebels-141, into the plug with the new system and planet and the modified syst for Viking to add the link to the new system.

Then I added to the four original governments a new class to each. I made 22 a secondary class for the Feds, 23 a secondary class for the Aurorans, 24 a secondary class for the Polaris, and 26 a secondary class for the Rebs. This, I thought, should make the new system a classmate of the all four of the major governments.

Then I moved the generic passenger missions into the plug, and changed ONLY the AvailaStel, from 10000/10001/10002/10013 to 30000/30001/30002/30013. Except, of course, that there weren't any 10013s. The Reb missions start specifically from Evelei or Koria.

However, none of the missions showed up in the BBS on the new planet. So I started this post. The last comment was occasioned by the fact that additional experimenting, changing the TravelStel from 10000/etc. to 30000/etc. caused the debuglog to burp.
