    • Really cool idea: Bureau Patrol Boat!

You know what would be cool? A mod of the normal fed patrol boat that's a bureau version...

What I would do, if I wasn't on windows and could make a bloody plugin, would be to add another version of the ship that is something like:

      Black Ops Variant
      Speed: 450
      Shields: 450
      Armor: 220
      Guns: 5 (max)
      Turrets: 2 (max)
      Space: 35 tons
      Cargo: 20 tons
      Fuel: 7 jumps
      Length: 35m
      Mass: 95 tons
      Crew: 10
      Cost: 500,000

I don't know what weapons would go on it cause I don't know the weapons well enough, but the idea is to take a patrol boat, add more fuel, upgrade the engines to be those kickass (blue!) micro-furnace type that the Starbridge uses, take off a lot of the armor, add some disabling weapons, add an extra jump or two, add lots more hardpoints for guns, and all in all make this a kickass ship for the evil government to go after "dangerous" individuals that might consider running...

I dont know enough about how the exact specs would work to figure this out and keep it balanced, but think "Black fed cars from GTA3" and you will be on the right track for badassness...

    • They already have them. Only they are RAGE Gunboats.

    • sigh i know, i know... but what would they use before the research on those gets completed? And I dont know a lot about the plot, but aren't rage gunboats for, you know, normal feds mostly? And the gunboats are big... i think the idea is to get something that can jump in one day...

      ------------------

    • The thing about the Bureau is that it is very secret, no one knows about it, and when people do, they generally get 'removed'.

The Rage Gunboats are only used when it is absolutly neccessary, like when you've got a T0 about to unleash his or her power on the entire Bureau itself.

See if people know about the Bureau, like if they have gunboats and fighters, etc flying around, it would defeat the purpose of it existing. It is only useful when people don't know about it.

Also the Bureau is an organisation of spies, whenever combat needs to be used, the Federation Navy comes in.

    • Yeah, but no-one would suspect a harmless little patrol boat of being connected with a galaxy-spanning evil spy network 😛 Until it blasts into hyperspace with blue engine glows or shoots Wraithii, that is.

Traveling through backwater systems, every once in awhile Roid miner captains tell the tail of odd speedy fed craft that they have seen at the edge of their scanners. What images they may have taken have been proved to be just system message buoys reflecting that systems sunlight.

    • lol! That's pretty neat, AAC. You forgot to mention the sightings of random civilian vessels being blown up by glowing, purple, flying blobs coming from nowhere (cloaked ships with Wrathii blowing up defectors) that have been proven (wink wink) to be collisions with asteroid debris. Oh, and the way that the spacefarers who tell these stories never seem to survive very long afterwards. When asked about this, the government says, "They must have... uhh... been accidentally killed by... uhhh... Wraith! Yeah, that's it! Umm... they must have offended the Wraith... or something. You're a patriotic Federation citizen! Surely you believe me!" (wink wink nudge nudge)

    • Uhmm... correct me if I'm wrong, but don't people KNOW that the Bureau exists, but not the extent of it's power?

Ya, at the end of the story lines in which it is exposed. There may be wispers of a special organization, Yet normal people dont have the faintest idea.

Actually, it's more of the NSA, CIA, and Dpt. of Homeland Security fused together.

With a little KGB thrown in for good measure. 😉

    • I would say put a little more emphasis on the KGB.

And the BII actually is kinda like the FBI gone haywire. NSA, CIA, DIA, and DHS can't do jack-s***: they have to get FBI approval in order to make any kind of video or audio recording of them. This is one reason why the BII can never (at least, not in the near future) happen in America, and why the existance of the BII is common knowledge ingame.

Moving on, the BII would (because its existance is common knowledge) have its own special ships, outfits, and weaponry. Think along the lines of the Boeing 747 commonly referred to as Air Force 1 (Air Force 1 is actually any USAF aircraft that the President happens to be on at the time. If it's a Marine Corps aircraft, it's Marine 1, and so on). Nobody really knows just exactly what that bird can do. However, it's a pretty good guess that it carries flare and chaff dispensers, and I don't doubt that it is armed -- maybe a few AIM-9 Sidewinders, AIM-120 Sparrows, and probably a Vulcan turret or six. Same goes for Bureau vessels (they would also probably have their own variant of Destroyer, although it would be insanely expensive and extremely rare -- the bigger the ship, the harder it is to hide). They'd be somewhat common sights, but not common enough to betray the strength or purpose of the Bureau. And they would also be enemies with the Association, as the Association is enemies with the ally of the Bureau, the Free Traders. On top of that, they would be allied with the Moash and the Vell-os.

Oh, and AAC, your variants look awesome.

Suddenly, the little scoutship disappeared and then reappeared right behind the alien warfleet. The gravitic ship's captain hailed the armada. "You are going to be destroyed, but I will give you a choice as to how you want to spend eternity: big pieces, little pieces, or quarks?"
      Dead silence.
      "Quarks it is, then."

    • I apologize for the double-post, but I just now thought of something. QT and I are doing a plug that replaces the Guild of Bounty Hunters with a new mercenary outfit. I've been thinking that I'd like the Bureau to play a major role in this storyline, and so...

AAC, could you do up some sprites for me of those three ships you posted here, the Bureau variants of the Patrol Boat, Scoutship, and Viper? I assure I'll give full credit to you for the graphics and to Gluegun for the idea.

    • Mods: Is there any possibility of seeing these in 1.05? Could you pass on some of the latest comments to the people who are working on 1.05?

Probably not. I recall that any new versions are only for bug fixes in the engine and scenario; but not for adding in missions/ships/etc. It'd be cool, I know, but I wouldn't count on it.

    • Well, how can I make sure that Frendell and people working on this see the latest versions of this and other comments? I mean, as I am using Windows, I am unable to (sniff...) make any plugins, so I have to rely on other people to do so... how could I make sure that some of the head honchos see the latest versions of my balance posts, and the stuff that Archangel Counterstrike came up with? Couldn't he work on getting some of those ships --and minor plot changes to go with them-- integrated in the next version, along with some balance changes?

      ------------------

    • Also, what do people think would be good, balanced specs for these? What outfits do you think they should come with? Thoughts?

      ------------------

    • I can say that there will be no new ships and/or features in 1.0.5 (well, there is one exception...)

Although a small plug-in would work well.
