    • Plug In Help

Hey what knowledge is neccessary to write a plug-in... Would I write it in C? I've noticed there are a few programs to download dealing w/ plug-ins, is it a "friendly user interface" thing where you can just plug in crap, load it somewhere, and play? Any help at all would be great.

    • Gentlemen, let move this topic to the DEVELOPERS CORNER!

      ------------------

    • Escape Velocity plug ins are not made in C or any other programming language. They are built from a set of resources containing different things such as system and planet information as well as misisons. It is quite simple. If you are developing for Nova, i recommend Nova Tools and ResEdit, Mission Computer or EVONE.

Personally I find NovaTools the best.

If you are developing for the earlier versions, I would recommend using EVEdit.

All in all, it is pretty easy to learn the basics, and you can make some pretty interesting things farily easily. I recommend downloading a copy of the proper bible as well.

    • Just get (url="http://"http://www.resexcellence.com/support_files/resedit.shtml")Resedit(/url) And (url="http://"http://w00tware.ev-nova.net/")Nova tools.(/url). (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/")Mission computer(/url) is also a good program

    • DONT SAY EV-EDIT! They are so BUGGY!

      ------------------

    • I can make plug-in's on a PC, right? Or are the above programs only usable on a mac....

    • To be more specific from what we just talked about, David Arthur is planning to make a Window Version of MissionComputer.

      ------------------

    • There is no way to use ResEdit on the PC, or EVONE, so you are out of luck at the current time. I would wait for the PC version of MissionComputer or other editors to come out. The PC versions of editors will probably not come out until Nova for Windows does anyways so that they can be tested....

Also I don't think ASW was intending to release any sort of editor for the PC version. I recall something saying that plug ins would be playable on both, but you would need a mac to make them. This meanst that you will have to wait for someone else, like David Arthur to make one.

You know it is legendary for for corrupting plugs? NEVER use EV-Edit for editing plugs. It may be little easier to use than ResEdit, but the amount of bugs is not worth it.

Just for the record, I will not be making a PC version of EVONE. If someone wishes to port it, they can contact me, but for the time being, consider a PC version highly unlikely. No offense meant to the PC users, but you must understand the implausibility of such an attempt.

Thats strange... I used it for making many plugs for EV and EVO and yet I had no troubles at all.

    • If you're a PC user, (url="http://"http://www.apple.com/powermac/")this(/url) will allow you to make plug-ins. Otherwise, abandon all hope.

    • EV-Edit's bugginess is often exaggerated. It's main problems are a rather unpredictable mission editor and a syst editor that eats plugins - the other editors work pretty damn well.

    • Then why not make a HUGE UPDATE to EV-Edit?! :mutters:

all other editors that is other then ship, outfit and weapon. I had a nasty experience with Ev-Edit trying to make a plugin in it for EVC. After three weeks Ev-Edit had corrupted the file so badly I had to get my computer repaired after trying to play it...

      Ouch!

Ouuucch! You had to get your computer repaired because the file had got so badly corrupted after long time? Thats dangerous to computers software, such which should not be avaible. Instead of overexaggerating the bugginess Mazca seemed to understate it.
