    • Help with Strata...

I'm utterly confused with Strata. It hates OSX, mulitple views, imported DXF's, me probably. I need someone to direct me to a tutorial of some sort, that helps you build a simple ship, nothing fancy, just something that I can then experiment with and make something, something fancy hopefully.
      Thanks All

    • Hmmm. Okay. Lemme go dig up my links.

      Here we are:
      (url="http://"http://www.strata.com/support/3dmanual/index.html")Official Manual for Strata 3.0.2(/url)
      (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/ewan/")Jules' Site(/url)
      (url="http://"http://www.stratacafe.com/")Strata User Group(/url)
      (url="http://"http://www.1n2.be/strata/")Strata Tutorials(/url)

None of these have a tutorial specifically on shipbuilding, but should be helpful nonetheless. Good luck and have fun!

    • Yeah, unfortunately the old versions of Strata dont like OS X very much. Im saving for Pro which is now OS X native 😄 3.0.2 crashes quite a bit under X, and and 3.5 is worse. Booting in OS 9 while working in Strata is the only viable option really :frown:

I would normally provide links here, but Ernimtir got there first with all the good ones 😛

    • Though I have Strata 3.0 for a short time, I have not noticed the crashing part. Then again, I have not upgraded to Jaguar which might have something to do with it.

I was about to post a Strata topic here, but since someone already did, I'll post it here.

      (question)

How do you make concave shapes in an object? For instance in a tutorial, they show a rounded box with a shallow rectangular box cut out of it. I haven't found out how to do that anywhere so far.

The same would go for a spherical concave area in an object.
      (/question)

I'll search the Stratacafe after this, but my previous search showed several people using this program.

BTW, has anyone used Amapi? It seems to work in a similar way. It seems to be a blend of Kai Power Tools, Strata and Mechanisto, etc.

      Easy 😛

Make the object you want to have a part cut from. Make another object that is the size and shape of the cut out. Position it where you want to be. Open up the project window and find that object in it. Press the triangle to show more information in the object. Check the anti-matter box. Apply the texture you want to the anti-matter object as it will just leave an untextured space if you dont.

Note, if you have any other objects going through the anti-matter object, they too will be invisible :frown: Strata 3.0 free doesnt have booleans (although Pro does). However there is a 'modification' you can do to 3.5 base that gives you booleans, skins, radiosity, and other such Pro goodies for free. Email me if you want to know how...
