    • Infini-D particle question

Can you make each particle be a specific object? i would love to mae a firework animation using particles but making the particles be a light with a nice flare 😄

By the way, does any of u know were to get the BIM (Big Infinid Movie), or if any of you participated?

    • I think you're missing the point of particles, which is to use a boatload of very simple objects with slight variations and spread them over an area to acheive a special effect. If every particle were a light, it would take weeks to render anything. You can probably give the particles a glow when you make the shader, but for actual lighting, make an appropriate bulb light in the middle of the particles. If done right, the effect should be seamless. Oh, and turn off shadows for the particles.
P.S. this comes from a felllow modeller that hasn't used Infini-D but has used very similar programs.

    • I think there's probably a plugin somewhere for ID4 that'll do something like that, but if it's anything like the blur filter, it'll crash Infini-D everytime you try to render. Fire works with just particles look fine anyways - you can even achieve some neat effects with making a particle black/transperent than fade into existence immediately before the end of it's life span. (that can be used in conjunction with another particle emitter to achieve a very fire-work esque animation)

If you really want a lens flare like effect you might try making each particle a polygon and than mapping a lense flare texture onto it, (Of course you'll have to render it in phong shading mode) but I don't know how good that would look, or if it's what you wanted to go for.

I don't think he particularly cares about them being lights, it's just that he wants a lens flare on each particle.

    • Well I know how to do it in Strata... but that wont help with Infini-D 😛

Just for anyone who wants to know, in Strata all you have to do is make a fountain on an object then create a lens flare and eliminate the glare from that. Make the particles emited from the fountain invisible, and apply the flare to the fountain's particles (I cant remember exactly how to do this but its straight forward from what I remember. I would check but Im in Uni right now and Strata is at home :frown: ).

To make it really effective, you would have to animate the flare so it was small and dim up to the top of its curve, then really bright for a second or two, then small in the way down again.
