I go to the EVO add-on page, and practically every new plug-in is the "I added on system with a station that lets u buy all ouftits"

WE DO NOT WANT THESE

No one is going to play a plug that has one new planet and two new ships using Voinian graphics

Get the message, please.

Okay, so when I was starting out with plug editing, I made really little things, but I never released them. Practice is good, but most of them (the cheats as well) just clog up the plug-in pages. When I sold my old computer, I wanted to download all the best plugs again (as well as the minor ones which were useful) and I could hardly find anything through all the junk.

Okay, so this is just an outburst, but doesn't everyone else agree?

Hell yes. Everyone has to start their plugin-making somewhere, but it doesn't mean they have to let everyone else see their attempt.

I most certainly agree but unfortunatly I don't think anything can really be done about it. Those that actually post the plugs would be forced to discriminate based either on the description or by actually using the plug. Something they couldn't really do in complete fairness. People would get their panties all in a bunch because their "Buy Kestrel for 100cr on Earth" plug wasn't accepted. But maybe they could add some sort of disclaimer - "If your plug is way too common, or just plain sucks, it may not be posted." Right, I'm sure that would go over real well

While I agree, I think that there are too many of those types of plugs, at the same time, would you rather that I just didn't add them at all?

I ask only because then you would complain about how the EVO Addons page is never updated.

I agree, I have made many EV and EVO plug-in's, has anybody ever seen them, no. Well, there are two reasons for that. The first is that I was never satisifed with the capabilities of EV or EVO, not enough ships, weapons, stallars. Only 64, not enough, so I never was able to create a very deep universe. Second, I HATE 8bit graphics, I make all these pretty images, but to no avail, the all look like crap with only 256 colors. Now with EVN that problem has been fixed, therefore at this time, after creating several test plugs for EVN, I am beginning work on a TC. Thus, in the not so distant future, I will be realeasing an EVN TC with all the elements I have always wanted to include. But I have never released a plug before this, they were all to crappy to be released (although they were probably a significant amount better than a lot of the plugs that are currently out there.

Sounds good, Spoonman. I look forward to it. Anyway, I agree that the new EV:O plugs are basically **** and would prefer the site only to be updated when a plug worth putting on there comes.

As before stated I agree, but also, just like several other people said, how would you do this? You couldn't really provide a disclamer, becuase this the quality of the plug would depend on an opinion. I suppose you could post the bad plugs in a differend section. But it is an interesting problem. Maby you could provide a voting system. The plus were voted upon by registererd users. Just an idea.

This is why I sort the plugs by size, since the tiny ones seem more likely to be crappy. And there is arating system in place. If a plug sucks, or is just a repeat of a million others, rate it a 1.

I think you need to combat this by using 6-year-old artistic skills to replace all the graphics in Nova.

Example: Instead of modeling a planet in 3D or photoshop, use paint (or a similar program) to draw a rough circle add rough continents. For ships, draw it rough-hand. Don't use fill to color anything, use the brush and leave some white space, go outside the lines. If you can, replace the starfield with a brush filled black field with random hand drawn stars in it. Do that for the entire game.Do linebursts for explosions.

When you get around to rotating something, drop it onto a flat plane in a 3D program to animate it. Take it into photoshop to get the transparency.

...You might want to suggest that it be the only graphic changing plug used...

Yes, we would.

I always thought that the plug-ins were checked/tested before being released. Isn't it obvious? If the plug adds no new graphics, no story, no decent justification to a system suddenly appearing in the middle of Miranu space but with a jump link straight to Sol, then it is crap.

Or, you could put a new section named 'beginner's plugs' or something. It would make the n00bs happy, but, like the cheats column, it would have a cosntant 0 DL rate.

So don't download it. Plugins aren't coming out at such a furious rate that checking it once a month will cause you to miss some incredible plugin that has been released because of so many other ****ty ones.

Probably won't happen, sorry. I can only imagine what kind of email I'd get from people complaining about how I put their "omfg l33t" plugin in the Beginners pile. Besides, that would still cause them to fill up the front page, so it ends up not doing a damn thing in relation to your original complaint.

Well, actually, I wouldn't mind helping at all. It would be fun, and not too hard to do. You can use (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl/MakeSpin20PPC.hqx?path=ev/utilities&file;=MakeSpin20PPC.hqx")Make Spin(/url) to rotate the ships quickly, I used that back in the EV days... Unfortunately it is only for Classic.

I'll get started on the EVO, the Voinians shouldn't be hard...
