I reckon that the fed string is really a bureau string and that they should have an actual string where you get recruited into the fed navy and you find out what the bureau are doing and you take steps to take them out of power then you take out the aurorons and the polaris by "honorable" means.
Any feedback would be appreaciated and I would do it myself but i don't have much experiance with mission programming

Cool idea. You might have to establish why you would take on the Aurorans and Polaris. In the game, it's really the Bureau's motivations to dominate these cultures, not the Federation's. You would also have to convince the entire Federation to turn against itself (Rebellion anyone?) which could actually make for an interesting story. I don't know how you would defeat the Aurorans and Polaris "honorably." There is no honor in war.

Sure there is, as long as you play by the rules.
It's a good idea, and if you want to continue with someone else as the programmer, you should flesh out a good solid story and then ask if anyone is interested.

I'd definately suggest any Fed string have significant amounts of espionage in it. Large-scale military campaigns would be nice, but without good intelligence and stolen technology, I doubt the Feds could take on the others and win a full-scale war. Especially if the BII is eliminated.

Good idea, I never really liked the whole Bureau idea, It made me feel dirty and dishonourable (I carried on with it because I wanted Fed ships)You should include some real Hardcore space battle missions instead of the namby-pamby 'Go and trick some unsuspecting Rebel' Missions. I hated those.

In my TC the player is conscripted into the army as soon as they start, and that is how you are set on your way in space (just think of the price of a shuttlecraft, plus all the training and everything - only rich people would be able to fly in space), but for a good chunk of the story you are a fighter pilot in the dominating governments army. You progress in rank and carry out various missions, from ambushes to large scale battles and assainations. You get to pilot bigger ships - and in the first quater of the game see huge amounts of combat!
I originally got the idea and actually considered making a plug where you good join the federation navy a simply just be a grunt with little importance.
But as an idea for a plug, go for it, joining up in a navy would be really cool and it would be very popular.

Fighter pilot? But fighters are famous for beeing fragile and badly armed, forcing you to use speed. So it wouldnt be possible to do ambushes and other difficult battles unless the fighter is VERY powerful (aka Striker).
