Ok, I needed to compress the files for my plugin so that my team can see what has happened so far. I needed a folder for them, so I decided since the plugin folder had the files in them, I would just rename it Factions (the name of the plugin) and compress it then change the name back. Ok so I did all that but then I went to test the new systems I had just added for my plugin and it wouldn't register that there were any plugins in the plugin folder. i switched plugs and put some different ones in but it wouldn't load.

I guess my question is Do I need to re-install Ev Nova? I can't use plugs till this problem is fixed and I would like to get it cleared up soon. I have Ev Nova 1.3 and am running OS 9 on a g4 Imac with 148mhz.

Its 1.0.3 btw.

Did you rename the plug-in folder exactly as it was? Its more than likely case sensative, and it will need all the spaces that were orriginally in it, and capitol letters where they are required. If you cant remember what it was then just re-install and NOVA will put in a new plug-ins folder for you.

I mean by 148mhz it has a 148mhz of ram (bad isn't it but it is a 5 year old computer)

Oh yeah and Jules, I hope our deal is still on, I have all the missions planned, and all the systems placed and only 20 more Republic systems, 44 Alliance Systems and 823 other systems still to fill up. Oh yeah I'll need to do fleets one day won't I?

I would do it, but I dont have NOVA installed at the moment. Im waiting till I get my new hard disk (should be tomorrow :)) till I install everything.

Now, I have a few points. Firstly, RAM is measured in Mb (MegaBytes). Secondly, you say iMac G4, then 5 year old computer. The original iMac had a 233MHz (MHz is a measure of clock speed) G 3 processor. Thirdly, and finally, It isnt possible to have 148Mb of RAM on a Rev. A iMac. RAM works in 32Mb denominations for the iMac. The closest you could have is 128 or 160 Mb.

The deal is still on, but by missions 80% complete, I mean added to the plug-in And you will also have to wait till all my other projects are finnished (that would be at least 16 ships, maybe more than 20).

Just to eliminate all possibilities: You don't have your plugs residing in a folder inside the Plug-ins folder do you?

That's what I do on my 350mhz iMac model. 64 of it is hardware, 300 of it is virtual.

you really "shouldn't" use more than equal your hardware memory, or else strange things may happen. I don't know if that's true, but I heard it from someone I trust.

A good rule of thumb is not to do any more than double your physical RAM with virtual. However, the only 'strange thing' that happens if you go above that is that your comp starts to get very slow indeed - however, if you need the RAM space more than you need the speed, then there is no problem.

Thanks guys :D, the problem turned out that I had the folder named Nova Plugins rather than Nova Plug-ins :redface:. Anyway thanks, I had a nasty feeling it was going to need re-installation and on my computer, downloading it took about 4 hours! And we hadn't kept the downloaded file originally.
Thanks again, I guess you could just as well close this post up unless anyone feels the need for it to stay.
