Here's the skinny: I'm a 15 year old student, so i really don't have much time to figure out how to get Mechanisto to do what i want it to do. I would like to know if there are any other free modeling programs that i can download that are easy to learn and use and make good quality ships for EV (I'm starting off simple, cuz Nova looks like a pain in the ass to do plugs for.). I have resedit and all the other plugin stuff except for a good modeling program. Please help an aspiring plug developer!

Strata 3D is a pretty good 3D program, AND it's free. Jules is the man to talk to right now if you want it since Strata stopped making the free versions. Check his webite (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/ewan/")here(/url). I think it's there, if not Email him.

Psionic_fish, please run a search on this board. Someone else started this same exact topic only a few weeks ago. And as always, my vote is for (url="http://"http://www.povray.org")POV-Ray(/url).

Psionic_fish, if you don't have time to figure out Mechanisto then I would advise you find a different hobby. 3D creation is challenging and takes time to master - Strata 3.0.2 isn't a bad program at all, but you won't find it any easier than Mechanisto.

POV-Ray, while powerful, is not really for the beginner in my opinion.

(Psionic_fish, i didn't feel like logging in. The main reason i posted this is because i am taking a computer graphics course in my school. We are just starting Strata and the teacher put me under the impression that it was not available for free. This is why i posted this. btw, is the downloaded strata a demo or is it full version?

Strata used to have a free version, but it was discontinued about a year or so ago. I put the last good free version on my site so people could download it. If your school is using Pro or Plus then I would do most of the modelling in there, as Pro is really far better.

The version I put up is a full version though

I downloaded Strata off Jules' site, and it works quite well. I'm not very good at it, so I don't need the advanced features and everything of pro. You can get a nice student discount at the Strata store. Also, check out (url="http://"http://www.stratacafe.com")www.stratacafe.com(/url). It's great for textures.

Just so you know psionic_fish you can change the name you use from guest when not logging in. You cant use any names that are taken by registered users, but if you put a space after your name (or an underscore if that doesnt work), you dont need to log in but you can use pretty much your name
