I have Mission computer and is is very good, the only problem is i don't know how to make a new planet in a currently uninhabitated system. How do i do this?

    • I know that MC doesn't support all of ev's resource types. I'm not sure, but the spob resource may be one of the unsupported types. Try finding resedit and novatools to help you with the rest of the resources. And welcome to the boards!

    • ResEdit frightened my in its complexity and lack of help balloons. I was terrified of screwing an inportant file up.

    • The current version of Mission Computer doesn't edit systems or stellar objects, but Mission Computer 2.1 with the Cartographer plugin (both of which are at the beta testing stage) will be able to do both.

    • If you haven't yet, try getting and installing(instructions included) (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evn&category;=utilities&page;=1&display;=name")nova tools(/url). It should be about half way down the page. It makes using resedit a lot easier by giving you better templates to use for editing the resources.
And I'd advise posting further tech questions on the ev developer's corner board, you'll get better, faster responses, and people here dont appreciate these questions much.

    • I'll give Nova Tools a go. Anyone know the planet resource name? I don't want to edit the wrong thing.

    • Sp ace Ob jects, aka planets, moons, and stations, are stored in the spob resource. There should be an umlat, two dots, over the o but I don't know how to do that on the school's crappy windows computer. And you can learn a lot, like all the other resources, by just looking through the game data files and trying to understand what has already been done.

    • I have looked around the spöbs and i can't make much sense of them. All i have done is copy an uninhabitated system (SGC-1710) to my empty plugin.

    • This post would be better suited on the EV Dev Corner.

    • Have you read the EVN Developers Bible? I know it looks intimidating, but starting with the correct resources and data points it becomes quite easy to understand. I'd recommend starting with the ship resource. Ignore anything you don't understand, because there will be plenty you do (speed, etc.). After you get familiar with the interface and how stuff is adjusted, move on to the weapons, and keep going until you understand it all.

      ------------------

    • Yes, just mess around with small stuff. You won't hurt anything as long as you don't edit the Nova Data files themselves. To be safe, make sure you have a backup of Nova. That's what the plugs are designed for. I understand you're new at this but please don't ask us to hold your hand and walk you step by step. Take a look at the resources in the Data files and keep the Bible handy so you can see what different fields do.
