    • [ANN] Basic Nothingness 0.4 Available Now!

      Did I say Friday the 14th? I meant Monday the 9th. 😄

It's taken me two months of grueling design, tile placement and tweaking, but I'm finally glad to announce the final release of Basic Nothingness 0.4 to the public! This newly-changed world adds two new levels, "Well-Paid in Newfoundland" and "Let's Dance, Fatboy." The former is a milestone: it is now officially the largest level in existence, beating even Ben's original levels in size! Ob & Ed? Twice that. The Labyrinth? Thrice that. Every square inch is packed with puzzles, reminiscent almost of Myst. Did I mention the "mean bastard" factor? 😉

On the subject of beta testing. MonsterLady did an excellent job in hunting down bugs, but she had to focus on private business lately (read: trekking the vast Canadian frontier 🙂 ). The latest beta produced has little testing behind it; nevertheless I felt confident enough to release it on-the-spot. If you find bugs, I am fully to blame; it was not an oversight on MonsterLady's part. Major bugs will have fixes ASAP.

That said, let's rock! It's already available wherever fine BN products are sold (major mod perk: immediate approval of my submissions by me 😉 ), so walk, don't run.

Greetings - I am your friendly neighborhood moderator. Over the coming years I shall force-feed you my biased one-sided liberal tripe that I find truthful based upon my own faulty and fragmented logic; excessive smileys 🙂 🙂 🙂 and bizarre TexT! formatting also help clarify my inane points. Welcome to the boards!

(We have a saying in BC: "BC - bigger than Texas". The response I got from one Texan was "what's a BC?") Drove across BC yesterday & am into Alberta today. Only driving about 800 km today. Another 800 km to northern Alberta tomorrow. Another 800 km the next day...

I'm sure there aren't many bugs - there were few, if any, in the original sent to me. I guess I will finish beta testing after everyone else has completed the levels!

    • I don't mean to brag...
Extemporaneous is a larger world than BN.
      Extemporaneous came out before BN.
Extemporaneous is a 0.5 whereas BN is only a 0.4.
And let us not forget "quality over quantity" ... oh, wait. Ignore that saying. Download Extemporaneous. 😉

Ah, but this gives me an excellent idea! Spamguy, what if we were to join forces, not in building levels, but promoting them. I will place on my website another link to download BN. We could have a process similar to a Banner Exchange. With your moderator-ing abilites to punish your enemy's, and my ability to leech off others success, we are bound to succeed! If we team up, we can use Clintonian PR tactics to take down the OBW/Tall Threat (and possibly the GWB Threat as well, you would be suprised at what a well made level can do 😉 )

Off to play my favorite world (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl?path=ferazel/addons&file;=Basic_Nothingness_04.sit.hqx") Basic Nothingness(/url) and maybe I will also play a little (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl?path=ferazel/addons&file;=Extemporaneous.sit.hqx")Extemporaneous(/url).

    • Extemporaneous is a larger world than BN.

There are a billion worlds that are larger than mine. I claim to have the largest level in existence, 70 000 tiles large. I'm too slow to maintain the largest world 🙂

      Extemporaneous came out before BN.

Wrong. BN came out a month to two before MASCOT was even released to the public.

Extemporaneous is a 0.5 whereas BN is only a 0.4.

      You're desperate, aren't you? 😉

Allow me to clarify. Extemporaneous 0.5, a fine world with seven, count them, seven fine levels, came out before Basic Nothingness 0.4.

That's not how mud sliggin' works. You avoid the topic by trashing others and/or mentioning their drinking/drug problem.

      I have played it and...
It was a true masterpiece. I just picked up on a secret I missed in Indecesion Eradicator 2001 during my previous playings. I detested/loved Well-Paid in Newfoundland, it was a truly challenging level. I finished it by the skin of my nose with all enemies killed and about two secrets discovered. And I was grateful for those two! It was a truly beatiful level considering the 511 sprite limit. You can imagine my suprise when, with 20% of the Gauntlet left I get a message saying no more sprites. ARG!
Let's Dance, Fatboy is the best boss level I have played since Mandraki Wizard. It had a nice twist to the normal boss level. I have always felt that the orginal boss level's were to bland. I still am not fond of Mr. Man's Mean Bastard Level. It is bastardly!
That's my review of Basic Nothingness 0.4

      Minor note:
Next to the passage exit at Will Oram's home in Been There, Done That, there is a BG Tile missing. Picky-Picky, I know but I thought you might like to know that. And don't start pointing out my feebles in the BG department of Extemporaneous, I do know they exist and I am currently fixing them.

Speaking of Extemporaneous, have you played it yet? What did you think? I seem to be getting very little feedback back and that worries me. This isn't the sort of silence that follow's failure is it?

    • Of course, how rude of me. Let me post my thoughts on Extemperaneous' side of the tracks.

And of course, thank you for the flattering comments. 🙂 What is your percent yield for discovered secrets? MonsterLady got 12% first try, and that pleases me...I was afraid some would be too obvious. That seems not to be the case, since I hid everything so well underground...(hint hint?)

I've found 4 of those. I get bored, spin-jumping for so long. 🙂

I like Well Paid, even though I haven't finshed it yet. Hate those spikeballs!

    • Heh, it's really a sick tendency of mine to make drill tunnels 40 to 50 tiles deep.

As for the spikeballs, there's only one that I can think of that would cause you trouble, which is in the tunnel going straight into the above-ground region (on the right side, not the triple-sealed exit). Yeah, I had problems with that, but I lived with it. 🙂

That's why I compared your Well Paid in Newfoundland to the Hibernia offshore oil field. Lots of drilling...

Is there oil in your family tree, Spamguy?

By the way - stuck in Fort McMurray tonight - will finish "beta" tonight 😉

    • Five people in my family voted for Gore, and I would have if I were given the chance. Let that answer your question. 😉

I guess I didn't make the connection between drilling and the Hibernia statement...now it makes sense. I thought you labeled by level Hibernia because it was greasy or filthy or something. And it is.
