    • Please help me with Mission description ID#'s

I started creating my missions using Schmelta-V. When I wanted to add a description I just pulled down the menu-bar and typed it in and saved it to my plug-in, but when I tried using MissionComputer it showed my an ID#. I tried fiddling around with it, but I found that even though I changed the ID# the message stayed the same. Is this because of a bug in MissionComputer? I read part of the EV bible, and it mentioned ID#'s but it didn't tell me what exactly they did, (In reference to mission descriptions.) Will someone please explain what they do, or what I'm not understanding?

Descriptions are stored in separate resources from missions. Schmelta-V tries to hide this from you; MissionComputer doesn't. If you click the 'Edit' button beside one of the ID numbers in MissionComputer, the description resource is opened, and you can edit the message there. Every description must have an ID number, but except for the offering description (which follows a formula, and is automatically calculated by MissionComputer), the only thing that matters about the ID number is that it not overlap with the ID number of any other description.

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying here - if this isn't cleared up by what I said above, could you explain exactly what you tried doing?

    • Ok, I still have a few questions, (If its OK with you.)
If two missions have the same description for the completion, can you give them the same ID#? If you do, when you edit one, will it edit the other?
What happens if two missions have different descriptions, and you try to give them the same ID#?
And you asked what I did so...
First I clicked on edit, (The ID was listed as -1) and it showed a list of ID#s, (Where these desc that already existed?) I clicked on one at random, and it went back to the first screen, and put the ID# in the box. Then when I clicked on edit again, it showed me my mission description, (which I had entered using Schmelta-V), then I clicked 'OK' changed the ID# and clicked edit again, and it showed my the same description. (Does that help you any?)
      Thanks for your help 😃

    • PluginManiac - your signature has several code errors. The url tag needs to be ended with (/url) (note the slash).

Also, the (br) tag does not exist in UBB. Use a return.

Correct. If you enter the same ID number in two missions, it will cause both missions to refer to the same description resource, and therefore any changes made to that description will affect both missions.

If you enter the same ID number in two missions, it will cause them to refer to one description, and that description will be displayed for both missions.

'-1' means 'no description', so if you click Edit, MissionComputer will ask you to select an existing description to use. If you want to create a new description, you'll have to enter an ID number that hasn't already been used into the box before you click Edit. You can check on what description IDs have been used by choosing 'dësc' from the resource types list in the main MissionComputer window.

When choosing description numbers, most developers follow a pattern in order to protect against overlap; since the offering texts have to be in the range of 4000-5000, they put the briefings in 5000-6000, the quick briefings in 6000-7000, and so on. Some developers follow even more complicated formulas, but the important thing is not to introduce any unintentional overlap between ID numbers.
