    • Help starting off

Alright, I'm yet another person who is just starting to work with ResEdit and Novatools. I'm figuring out most of it, but I'm not sure exactly how to start a new plug. Is it just a new ResEdit document? If so, it doesn't seen to have all the fields required (I can't find a Përs or Gövt fields, for example)
Oh, and by the way, I did search this.
      Thanks in Advance

In order for Nova to recognize the file as a plugin, you have to change the file type/creator of a new resedit file to Npďf and Növä, respectively.

You can just type them in manually. (Press and hold option down, then type 'u', let go of option, and then type a letter ('i', for example) to get the döts, but it looks like you already know that.)

How exactly do I do that?
They should really explain this in the bible.

    • In the file menu, Get file/folder info. Select the file, and change the type and creator.

Under the file menu in ResEdit, choose either 'Get Info for <pluginnam>' or 'Get File/Folder Info...'.

The bible explains what the resources in Nova/EVC/EVO do, not what ResEdit does.

      ------------------

    • I agree with Veritus Dartarion on that point. Either that or, like with the old EVO bible, it could include a blank plug-in with the bible.'

On a side note, I wonder how hard it would be to make an addition to Nova Tools that would make a new Res-Edit file an new Nova Plug-in? I don't know how to do that kind of programming, but it would be very convienent (especially for beginners).

    • Okay, I've got some more problems with my new plug.
1)Whenever I open the Spöb resorce (perhaps others are like this, I don't know,) I get gibberish numbers instead of the menus that I believe are put there by novatools Oddly, the Përs and Gövt fields work fine, so I know I have Novatools installed. Also, I checked to make sure all of the things in Novatools got in ResEdit.

      1. How do you name new gövs, Përs, etc.? I've made a government, but It's name is blank.

1: It should be "spöb", not "Spöb." If that's the case, I dunno what the matter is.

2: For gövts and përs', etc, select the one you want to name. Then hit command + i. Rename it in the second field, replace the resID (if you want to) in the first field. and do not change any other stuff.

I did have it lowercase. I guess I'll mess around with it some more.

why would you change the ID? Just if it conflicted with another one?

That, and some times you need to. For instance, mission dësc IDs are 4000 + mďsn ID - 128. That's the number you put in the ResID field. (A mďsn with the ID of 128 would mean it's corosponding dësc would be 4000)

      Hope that made sense!

    • Does anyone else know why spöb wouldn't bring up the right page? I'll recheck my prefrences, but I think everything's right.

hmm, I think I understand, but that's not my major trouble right now. Neither my spöb or s˙st resorces work.

    • I had the same problem with my shďp resources, and maybe a couple others...try reinstalling Nova Tools, that seemed to work for me....but it might of been something else I'd done too....

    • If all else fails, you could use Res-Edit without Nova Tools. The only complete editors that existed for EV and EVO that I ever used were very unstable and buggy, so most people just used Res-Edit and we got along just fine. 🙂

The only thing that Nova Tools does that I find truly great is show you how your annimations and ships will appear in the game. But I havn't extensivly used Nova Tools yet - I'm mainly doing graphics right now.

    • Okay, I took your advice and downloaded ResEdit and Novatools again. Deleted the prefrences, then copied all the stuff from novatools into it, and it STILL DOESN'T WORK! I know I'm typing spöb and s˙st right, because I get the nova icon on the resorce, but when I open it, there are just coloums of numbers. Does anyone else have an idea? Besause I'd hate to give up my plug ideas just because of a lously bug.

    • I always copied the tmlp resource into my plugin file to help out. That should allow you to scroll down the list of available resources when you make a new resource. One way you could do it is to modify another plugin that has already been made - but the downside to this is that you will not really learn the ins and outs of ResEdit. Just my 2 cents.

    • It won't work even if I open up another plug that I downloaded

    • what temlate are you using? Try deleting the resedit prefs and starting over with just resedit with the template that comes with the bible. Try that out first and see what happens. Do you get a drop down list when you try to create a new resource?

What happens if you copy and paste a wëap resource from another plugin?

Do you see the resources in other plugs or in the data files in ResEdit?

      1. I've tried most of the templates that they have.
2)There's a template that comes with the Nova Bible? I'll check it out.
      2. Yes I do get a drop down list. When I select spöb from there it still doesn't work.
4)the wëap resorce works fine, it's just the spöb and s˙st that aren't
5)No, I don't see spöb or s˙st right when I open other plugins or the data files.

added: I don't see any templates that come w/ the bible
btw, for some reason spöb and s˙st don't appear in the new resorces window, but everting else seems to.

    • Email me at ronin_uta@yahoo.com and I will send you the template that I use along with my pref file for Nova tools.

      Maybe that will help ya.
