    • Weapons types in Nova


      I'm plotting away and trying to work out weather something is do-able...

      Is there a weapons resource - or a cunning fiddle - in Nova that would allow a weapons to be set to a kind of 'fire at will' type of thing?

      For example - imagine a capital ship, something really effing big, which has numerous clusters of turrets. Each turret is independently controlled by a 'gunner', who targets the nearest hostile and, lets-rip.

      A kind of ' multi-targeting, auto-fire on anything that's close enough ' weapon that could emulate semi-independent gun turrets?

      Thoughts? If the answer is an obvious one, save me the accusations of idiocy, thanks 😉

    • Theoretically, that would work. However, whenever you're stretching Nova's engine, there is a chance that things won't work like they're theoretically supposed to. But give it a try - I think that you have a pretty good chance on this one. Nice idea, I wish I'd thought of that ;).

    • From what I've seen the PD system will only target a single thing at one time. Don't you just love those little statements where you hope you're wrong?
      And speaking of plugins, we should probably start work on Alpha Espial again... Send me an e-mail (since I'm going home tommorrow & thus won't have reliable internet access for about 10 weeks).

    • For the point defense to work you have to have the proper flag set in the other ships ship resource. In NovaTools the check box says something like "Can be hit be point defense." The player has absolutely NO cotrol over PD weapons, they fire at anything that they can hit, usually reserved to missiles and fighters. You could however check that flag on every ship and then the PD will fire at every nearby hostile. Im not sure if they only fire one at a time, but remember that you cannot choose what it fires at, so it may be shooting vipers while you want it to kill the Raven.
