    • New spöb, default Felon status

      Hey everyone!

Since this is my very first post to the EVO web board, I feel it appropriate to begin by asking a strange and possibly stupid question.

When creating a new spöb in a plug-in, my player is automatically defaulted to a Felon legal status. This happens despite my being on good terms with the rest of that government's worlds and even though I'm liked by the government's allies and despised by its enemies. So far I've checked to make sure that I've assigned the correct government and that the initial legal record is positive. The spöb settings for MinCoolness is -1.

What's going on? I'm worried that I'm going to end up developing a hostile universe and that everyone who eventually plays the expansion plug will send me flames about what a terrible and incompetent person I am. I already posted this message to the regular EVO board but figured that the developer's board is more appropriate for a developer.

      Thanks,
      Chris 😃

    • Are you using a brand-new pilot file, or one that's been previously used? Also, is the gov't in question xenophobic? Are any hate flags ('will attack player,' 'always attacks player') checked?

As Phil said, it may be the fault of a messed up Flag Field. If you need help with flags, myself and others would be more than happy to give you a tutorial on them.

    • I'm inclined to think this is a quirk of EVO. As it turns out, the 'always attack player' flag was set for the govt in question. As soon as I removed it and restarted the game I had a criminal record splashed accross the eastern half of UE space and the rest of the new govt too.

The pilot is an old one with a vast and interesting combat history so that may have caused some problems. Right now I'm trying to get a new pilot to run the gauntlet, though completing the Voinian mission string twice in one day is a bit draining. This may be different when I'm not adding spöbs in the middle of gameplay. Who knows.

Blackdog, thank you very much for the offer. I think I've got the flag part figured out pretty well. Mission bits are the next hurdle!

      Best,
      Chris 😃

    • Don't worry, mission bits are pretty simple in EVO. They only have two states: set and cleared.

If the pilot in question has, in the past, played any other plugins, then there is always the possibility of a vestige being responsible. If you pissed off system X in a long-forgotten plug-in you played and deleted, and then you have now created system Y that has the same resource ID, the pilot file could still be recorded as being a Felon in the system with that ID.

    • Mazca,

The fact that this pilot may have some extra baggage in the way of long forgotten criminal records never occured to me. I haven't yet gotten a chance to do a dry run of the plug-in but if the legal issues persist, I could just solve it by discreetly placing a "clean record reward" in one of the first missions.

Actually, speaking of dry runs (not a medical condition BTW) I may have a plug-in announcement in a few weeks. Just some polishing here and there and, oh yeah, I still need to write the missions!
