    • LASIK on glow sprites?

Does anyone of you guys have experience with the LASIK-technique?

If so, would you, or would you NOT use LASIK with glow-sprites? I figured that I might not need it, since the glow HAS to look a little diffused, but any suggestions?

      Thanks in advance. 🙂
PS: This is for the EV:N Star Wars plug-in

    • Well, I don't know too much about graphic design, but I'd say don't use it, and leave the engine glow dull. IMO, it will look more realistic. But you prbably value an opinion from someone who knows more than I do. 😛

    • If you can get the glows to match up well (shouldn't be a problem) without using lasic on both, I wouldn't, glows aren't supposed to be sharp and crisp.

    • Just experiment and see what looks best in your opinion. It looks to me like ATMOS did use it in the glows since some (Fed Anaconda and Vipers I think) have quite sharp glows (long pointy streaks). Also take a screen shot of vith and without LASIK and post it to see what the general concensus is. I have faith in you to make the best choice - you seem to know what you are doing 😛

    • I would'nt LASIK engine glows, because then you loose the idea of the glow fading into space, which I think is very important. LASIK could work nicely if you want to see the textures of the glow itself... but most glows arent THAT exciting.

    • I experimented a little, and came to the conclussion that I won't use LASIK (LASIC*) on ENGINE GLOW. Thanks for your replies.

*hightlighted this just in case someone might need that information and does a search on LASIK/LASIC + ENGINE GLOW.

    • What does L-A-S-I-K mean ? Don't get me wrong, I know what it actually is, but I was wondering about the name itself. Is it an abreviation or something alike ?

It's not an acronym or an abbreviation. I believe it's named after a form of laser eye surgery or something like that, the rationale being that it lets you see the graphics more clearly.

Ah... uh... okay............ I've been wondering about that, but I couldn't figure it out. Course, you weren't answering that question for me, but thanks.

      It is an acronym, actually.

An acronym for: Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis.

Yes, that is true, but inb this case, it is simply refering to making things sharper, and not actually the laser eye surgery. So in this case, while it technically is an acronym, It is one that has no baring on what the actual process is.

LASIK the eye surgery is an acronym. LASIK the graphical process is not an acronym, but rather a reference to the eye surgery.
