      Hey,

Im guessing that the lighting angles for stations are the same as those for the ships? - would they look odd if they were lighted at a different angle?

Anyone know what light sources the stations use? - Any help ATMOS?

My suggestion would be to light the station from an angle from which it looks good. Upon checking the Nova station sprites, it appears that the light comes generally from the left, but there doesn't appear to be a set angle. Some are lit more away from the camera, and some appear to be lit closer to the camera. I guess they did it that way to get good shadows, but also enough of what points towards the player to not obscure the details.

    • Have you concidered making a station that is pretty much lit from only its own lights? By this I mean make lights on one part of the station that highlights particular parts of it. Still have some light from other sources but have them quite dim. This creates a moody grim effect which can be quite useful when it comes to setting the mood of a station, government, situation (ie war), or whatever. Think about it.

However I assume the reason you ask is to make a Station that blends well into the NOVA Universe. The truth is that very few people really know the lighting angles used in NOVA since ATMOS have been selective in giving people that kind of information. Some people have guessed and I can remember someone saying in another topic what he thought the angles were. They were pretty close but I cant remember the name of the topic. Try searching for NOVA lighting anlges on the "search" doo-daa. It might help enlighten you. -->Sorry I couldnt help myself 😛

It was probably me. Anyway, the ship angles are pretty consistant, and really easy to figure out, but the station angles are tough. They're not rendered from any consistant angle, and the lights come from different locations to the left of the model (I guess that the various render angles hides the lighting angles).

    • Hey,

Thanks for the input guys, here is a station I did where Ive basically lit it to the way which best suits the model. I didnt really want to post this, since I like to keep all my development work under wraps until I release it, but well, what the hell.

    • Very nice station, I can't wait to see how your plug turns out.

And sorry about the broken UBB code, I usually check for that kind of thing.

I dont want to reveal much of the plug-in for now, it is a joint effort between me and Apollyon, its been in dev for quite a while now....
