    • What's in a plug?

I've made a few plug-ins that are posted on the addons page of evo (all in the pernitious plugin Pak), but none of them seem to have any real popularity. What do you look for when you are downloading plugs? I need help!

P.S. I am not a newbie i just lost my other password!

First off, the Vell-os mind-speak is rather annoying in regular conversation. I'd advise dropping it to avoid problems with other people having difficulty understanding you.

Second of all, the plugins that are popular are the ones that contribute to the pleasure of playing the game. For example, new mission strings are great, especially if the new plot line is more difficult than the standard game. Plugins that challenge the player are among the all-time favorites.

But you must remember the differance between "challenging" and "impossible".

For instance, challenging is fighting a large fleet with a largish fleet.

Impossible is having you alone take over a system that has 60+ Polaris Ravens all howling for your blood.

Note also that "challenging" does not necessarily refer to combat. A challeging plug could be one in which the player must deduce - from information readily available - where he must go to obtain and/or comlpete missions, without having specific instructions handed to him or arrows pointing the way on the map.

    • Also try to avoid situations where the player might get stuck, like having to find a certain ship without any idea of where to look. Puzzles is great, but they must be carefully made to not make the player abandon the plugin in frustration of not being able to complete it. That is a thing that should be remembered by all game and mod developers.

    • And cheater plugs tend to be popular, but usually turn out to be various iterations of the same theme: a super fast, super strong, ship, that can kill anything in under four seconds. They're fine if you want the dls, but people will get bored of you really quickly.

    • Well... missions? Last time I checked StarWars was one of the top plug ins and not a mission in sight. It can't just be star wars popularity can it? I hated the stupid plug.

      EVula: how's this?

    • How many of the people that read this have actually downloaded PernitiousPluginPak?

      Much better, many thanks. 😉

And no, I haven't played (or downloaded, for that matter) PernitiousPluginPak, as I don't have much time to play anymore... so many things to do, so little time. 😉
