    • How to write for EV/O/N?

How do I get into writing for EV/O/N? What are some good writing programs?

      Thanks!

Microsoft Word and Simpletext, or whatever else you can type in. 😉

      Define "writing."

I do all my fiction and most of my EVO desc's in Word. If by writing you mean "scripting", as in creating a plug-in, why, I hear good things about NovaTools but for EVO a copy of the bible and ResEdit is all you really need.

    • Appleworks... A pad of paper and a pen.... heck, you could even go with a pad of paper and a pencil.... or a pad and a quill..... or a slab of clay and a stick. Generally, though, when you write on a pad (or a slab of clay), they don't transfer very well into computers, but it can be done. You simply retype what you wrote on the pad (or slab) into a program that was listed above.

How does one write do you ask? First, you grip the pen/pencil/quill/stick between your thumb and your middle finger with the writing end (that's usually the sharpened end) pointed in the direction of your fingers. If you use a quill, you have to dip the tip into a bottle of black ink before you can start writing, but with anything else, all you do is just put the implement on the paper (or slab), and start moving your hand so that the markings that your writing implement makes resembles the little pixelated characters that you see on your computer screen.

Huh. Dumb sarcastic answer, but that's a really strange question you asked.

Generally, we call writing when you put text into a computer, or on a pad of paper, or on a slab of clay, or a rock or something. We like to call editing the resources of a plugin: Editing, or "resourcing," or.... I dunno... but definitely not writing. If you are talking about working on the resources of a plug, then state that you want to know what the "best" way of working on the resources of a plug is.

Now, the "best" way of working on a plug is all based on personal preference. The general consensus is using ResEdit with NovaTools, though. When you do that, just remember to rename ResEdit before you put in NovaTools, though, because that could cause you problems if say, you want to work on an EVO plug.

I just think what I want to write, and my thoughts are magically transformed into words on the computer screen.

Darn! What about ground rock mixed with water and painted onto cave walls? I'm sorry for the dumb answers, Ace, but seriously, ask a more specific question. "What are some good writing programs," is a bad question to ask to a board full of smart alecks, who will pounce on any chance they can get to mercilessly pound those who ask such open questions. As for editors, look around the board. There are currently about 2 or 3 active threads with similar questions.
