    • Interface Question

Ok, so. I'm working on making a new interface plug for EV Nova. I'd like to poll people on something: how disorienting would it be if the interface elements (radar, navigation, shield/armor/fuel bars, etc.) rearranged positions when th einterface changed? Interfaces would change when you bought a ship belonging to a specific government, so it would change according to the type of ship you're piloting.

    • I'd have nothing against the idea.

    • It'd be a little disorienting, but that's half the fun, isn't it?

    • It'd be more realistic, too--different ships, made by different companies, would have controls and dials and whatnot in varying places.

    • Sounds cool. I'd like to see it. Disorientation would be realistic.

    • Cool. I just thought that since all the positions and all are customizable, I may as well vary the locations of stuff depending on the government, as long as I'm making new interface bar graphics anyway. I just thought som epeople might find it wierd and annoying to be used to glancing to the top of the screen for the radar, and then remembering that it's now at the bottom.

      Anyway, thanks for the input.

    • That would be great! Are you planning on using the interfaces as a plug-in of your own, or making a bunch of them then making them avaliable to plug-in designers? It would be a great resource. Shipyards, landscape yars, and now an interface yard. You could even conspire with a shipyard designer and create a matching series of ships and interfaces. Plugs would look so much better!

    • I was planning to just release them as a plugin to change the interface depending on what ship you're flying (it's always bothered me that you keep the aging, brushed-metal nav bar when you're flying in a Polaran bio-organic ship, or even worse, a Vell-os mental projection). Plugin developers could naturally tear it apart and use them if they thought my work was good enough.

    • yea. And shouldn't the rebellion's bar look even worse than the federation's? what about some of the "older" ships?

    • Although it's not very important to update people on my progress, I think I will anyway.

The Polaris and Vell-os interfaces are done. Or at least, as done as I'm willing to make them right now. Remaining interfaces are Auroran, Fed, and Rebel. Other possible ones could include a Pirate and perhaps a Wild Geese interface.

For the question portion: I've used some uncommon fonts in creating some of these interfaces. I did copy the FOND resource from those fonts into the plugin, but I'm wondering if the plug will use that, or if I'll need to actually bundle the fonts with the plugin. Anyone have any ideas?

    • Heh, I've been working on mine for a few weeks. I'll wager yours are quite a bit better than mine. Need any help with any aspects of it?

      Healthy competition, indeed. 🙂
