TC, or "total conversion" is a generic gaming term for anything that completely replaces at least one aspect of the assets of a game (graphics, missions, story, you name it). A plugin that adds a few new ships, systems, and missions to the existing universe is a plugin. A plugin that provides an entirely new universe, entirely new ships, or entirely new missions, etcetera, in place of the old universe/ships/misisons/etc. is a TC.

TCs can be done for lots of games, but EV/O/N is special in that respect since the entire community is based around TCs and other modifications of the game.

"TC" means total conversion. A total conversion plug-in is a whole new universe with new ships and everything new.

good examples of TC's for EV and EVO are the Empire series and Galactic Scourge (a couple of my personal EV favourites) and frozen heart and femme fatale (perhaps the most commonly talked about EVO plugins).

And talk has been going around about coining "CP" for a total-conversion plug on a much, much smaller scale; one that changes, not adds to, the stock universe but that doesn't take an hour to download and a week to play. Sort of like a "Marvel Comics Limited Series" (or a TV Movie of the Week) for plug-ins.
