    • Help with dësc

I have read the EV Bible, just to let you know.
      ---------------------------
I need to know how to make a shipyard/escort description for a ship.
Ex: The ship's ID I am trying to make a dësc for is 154.
I thought I was supposed to make the ID of the dësc 2054. So I did. Then I checked it in the Plug and it didn't work. So I tried the ID 2154 and it didn't work.

How do I make it work? HELP!

    • Did you use EV Formula Calc?

    • The ship reasource starts numbering at 128, the desc resource starts at 0. You have to subtract 28 to get the correct ID#. EV Formula Calc does the subtraction for you. I just used a regular calculator!

    • Oh, okay. Thanks a lot.

Why doesn't the EV Bible say that?

There are many things that the EV Bible does not say, and some of the things it says are wrong, but it is the best referece source we have.

Matt supposedley said somewhere that he was drunk when he wrote it; if true, that would explain a lot. 🙂

not so. We have the EV Bible: Annoted Edition, as well as the EVOAE.

      So.
The Annotated Editons are based on the EV/O Bibles and repeat many of the errors and omissions though they are much improved, also AFAIK the EVOBAE has not been updated for EVO 1.0.2.Besides which "EV Bible" is a generic term for any variant of the document.

    • I know how buggy everyone says Ev-Edit is, and how it screws stuff up sometimes (I can attest to that) but it makes everything so much easier. I say just backup often and use Ev-Edit. It does all of this automatically. Importing sprites is a whiz, descritptions take no mathematics and everything makes just a little more sense. I've read the EV bible- that's why I used Ev-Edit.

    • The only utilities I use are ResEdit, EVO Developer's Map, and Schmelta-V.

Trust me, you'll need ResEdit some time soon. (i)Real)/i) soon. I was just like you, then I got smart... 😉

    • Don't get me wrong, I use Res-Edit too, you can always find a bug that only it can fix. I also do some Ares Editing, and you can't extract sprites except with Res-Edit. I know how to use it, but I still prefer Ev-Edit in most cases.

I gave up on EV-Edit after a week or so. ResEdit allowed me to do so much more, and more reliably, though I have yet to finish my first plug-in, havn't worked on it for months now. Made lots of mistakes with ResEdit though and had to completely rework my current plugin (now probably 4 years in the making, being written in short bursts). I think I've got most of it down now.
