    • Starting Point

What is the best way to go about making a plug-in? By that I mean do you build the universe first, then add the ships, or try building missions into the existing universe, or create ships and weapons first then build on them? I'm thinking of creating a plug-in, but I'm not sure where to start.

      Cheers,
      BenDM

P.S. Sorry if this has been posted before. I haven't been able to find anything.

    • Because you need certain resources to do other ones, this is a good order, IMHO:

      Governments
      Weapons
      Ships
      Dudes
      Systems/Stellars
      MIssions
Any extra crap (persons, fleets, etc.)

    • Hmmm. Id say
Make one "cheat system" that has several planets and where you can buy everything in the shipyard and outfit shop.
Next, I started by making ships and weapons together, they are similar. (Word for the wise, do the desc ASAP if you don't like writing.)
Before you are done with ships, you should create a galaxy and outline some of the government paramiters.
Start on spobs, I found these long and boring. Reward yourselft every now and then by creating a ship or weapon.
When the majority of the ships and weapons are done, balance them.
      Complete sbobs.
Finish off you galaxy with dudes, interference, and roids.
Finally, do the missions and the all important bug fixing + beta.

    • I usually plan everything out on paper first, starting with the plotline and how you'll do stuff. I often lay the galaxy out towards the beginning, but having the core ships and outfits (non-mission related ones) is a good idea (of course, the governments first) like the others said.

    • Thanks.
I just didn't want to start something and not finish it, which seems to be a bit of a problem from what I've heard.

It is a big problem. Don't come here with a wonderful plot line and expect to find millions of people who want to work with you. Also, don't think too big- a 300 system universe with 5 major races is too much for one person to complete in a reasonable amount of time.

    • Heck, a TC with 5 major govt's, 40 ships and roughly 100 systems (or less) has taken me more than four years now...but then, I do have high standards for quality of graphics, sound, and writing. You should see the pages and pages of story notes! Sheesh!

      But anyhow...yeah...what they said.
