uh, Deadboy, while Lightwave has spline support it is really, really primative. It only supports natural splines. C4D on the other hand supports Natural, Akima, B, Beta and a couple more.
For a spline editor I would go with Cinema 4D XL R7. It has real time modeling (like everything else), plus its NURBS lathe/extrude/loft etc is competely editable at a later stage, in real time.
As for the interface - it is confusing at first but when you're used to it you have no problems. Just like Lightwave.
