Adobe already has a web application anyway (GoLive), so I wouldn't think they'd make two seperate programs designed for the same thing...

Pagemill is Adobe's webpage maker, a real buggy one. I think you're thinking of Go-Live. I should learn HTML...

while I seem to be in a minority here, I love PageMill. I've made most of my websites in it, then cleaned up it's coding in Simpletext. It's really easy to use and it was pretty cheap, although I think it's been discontinued now :frown:

I believe my dad used PageMill for a few weeks before switching over to Visual Page and GoLive. 😉

By the way all you Netscape users, I've got some good news. I've fixed some screwed code spotted by EVula in the HTML at Saber Studios, so I'm guessing the page should load fine now. Give it a try and report back as soon as you can concerning the loading results...

    • Visual editors can be useful, but the only way to be sure your website works reliably on all (or nearly all) browsers is to do the markup by hand and adhere to the HTML standards.

Which is precisely how my dad and I construct websites. I like to "see" what I'm actually doing by designing visually, then go back and edit out all the extra junk that many browsers and operating systems don't like...

Yes, that damn browser and its need for code to be correct. 😉

Of course, if you're good (like me), you can code fast enough that it doesn't matter how much time you have. 😛

For the sake of the discussion at hand, I'd like to point out that I found the bad code in BBEdit. 🙂

Hehe, that wasn't the exact point I had in mind. 😉 I just hate the over all layout of Netscape. Perhaps that's because I've almost always used Internet Explorere (ever since 3.0).

Way to go. The program seems to earn itself a better reputation the more I hear about it.

      Since 3?

I only started using it with 5. 3 and 4 were both just so slow, buggy, and annoying.

      (IMO)

    • BBEdit is the way to go! When designing a site, you'll want to have two browsers on hand: IE 5 and Netscape Communicator 4.7. If your site looks right in both of these browsers, then it should look good in almost anything. (I say 'almost' because there may be some people (both of them) that still use Mosaic or something...)

A friend of mine down the street (a Gateway user. That's right, he has yet to confess ;)) uses the exact same combination. But to me, Fireworks is just a rip-off of Photoshop. That said, it doesn't even match the power of Photoshop. But my friend has been able to produce some excellent websites using the combination, so I agree with you on the subject.

Yeap, I've got Internet Explorer (latest version) on hand, but I only have an old version of Netscape (4.0) which I usually only use to sometimes preview my websites.

Speaking of the Mosaic browser, my website has had three visitors in the past who used it (and others who still used Lynx. Heh, what good is a graphics website in a text-only browser? ;))

Thanks for the help. Sounds like BBEdit is a go.
