I'v got a BIG problem. I checked my plug in with plug checker and it gave me a list of like 45 things that were wrong here they are, and brace your self.

      45 errors reported.

      • wëap 176 "Ion Gun" : linked 'spďn' 461 is missing

Like I said help none of this makes sence to me. As far as I'm concerned it may as well be a computer code. I just hope one thing is wrong and it read as one big problem.

    • Ok, here are the explanations:

      • shďp 175 "Centurian Cruiser" : linked 'PICT' 3047 should be 128x64 pixels (ship target)
      • shďp 175 "Centurian Cruiser" : linked 'PICT' 5347 should be 100x100 pixels (ship communication)
      • shďp 176 "Centurian Destroyer" : linked 'PICT' 3048 should be 128x64 pixels (ship target)
      • shďp 176 "Centurian Destroyer" : linked 'PICT' 5348 should be 100x100 pixels (ship communication)
      • shďp 177 "Centurian Strike Fighter" : linked 'PICT' 3049 should be 128x64 pixels (ship target)
      • shďp 177 "Centurian Strike Fighter" : linked 'PICT' 5349 should be 100x100 pixels (ship communication)

For all of these you've placed a graphic file which is the wrong size. EVO probably won't crash, but they'll look funny as EVO will try to scale them.

      • shďp 180 "Death Blade" : linked 'PICT' 3052 is missing (ship target)
      • shďp 180 "Death Blade" : linked 'PICT' 5352 is missing (ship communication)

Like it says, you've got to include picts at these locations

      • shďp 180 "Death Blade" : linked 'STR ' 3652 is missing (ship short name)
      • shďp 180 "Death Blade" : linked 'STR ' 3852 is missing (ship communication name)
      • oütf 202 "Mass Blaseter" : linked 'STR ' 3074 is missing (outfit name)
      • oütf 202 "Mass Blaseter" : linked 'STR ' 3274 is missing (outfit LC name)
      • oütf 202 "Mass Blaseter" : linked 'STR ' 3474 is missing (outfit LC plural name)
      • oütf 210 "Cloak" : linked 'STR ' 3082 is missing (outfit name)
      • oütf 210 "Cloak" : linked 'STR ' 3282 is missing (outfit LC name)
      • oütf 210 "Cloak" : linked 'STR ' 3482 is missing (outfit LC plural name)
      • oütf 212 "Scanner" : linked 'STR ' 3084 is missing (outfit name)

      • oütf 212 "Scanner" : linked 'STR ' 3484 is missing (outfit LC plural name)
      • oütf 213 "Plasma Torpedo" : linked 'STR ' 3085 is missing (outfit name)
      • oütf 213 "Plasma Torpedo" : linked 'STR ' 3285 is missing (outfit LC name)
      • oütf 213 "Plasma Torpedo" : linked 'STR ' 3485 is missing (outfit LC plural name)
      • oütf 214 "Plasma Launcher" : linked 'STR ' 3086 is missing (outfit name)
      • oütf 214 "Plasma Launcher" : linked 'STR ' 3286 is missing (outfit LC name)
      • oütf 214 "Plasma Launcher" : linked 'STR ' 3486 is missing (outfit LC plural name)
      • oütf 215 "Mass Turret" : linked 'STR ' 3087 is missing (outfit name)
      • oütf 215 "Mass Turret" : linked 'STR ' 3287 is missing (outfit LC name)

      • oütf 216 "Blade Bay" : linked 'STR ' 3088 is missing (outfit name)
      • oütf 216 "Blade Bay" : linked 'STR ' 3288 is missing (outfit LC name)
      • oütf 216 "Blade Bay" : linked 'STR ' 3488 is missing (outfit LC plural name)
      • oütf 217 "Death Blade" : linked 'STR ' 3089 is missing (outfit name)
      • oütf 217 "Death Blade" : linked 'STR ' 3289 is missing (outfit LC name)
      • oütf 217 "Death Blade" : linked 'STR ' 3489 is missing (outfit LC plural name)
      • oütf 219 "Ion Turret" : linked 'STR ' 3091 is missing (outfit name)
      • oütf 219 "Ion Turret" : linked 'STR ' 3291 is missing (outfit LC name)
      • oütf 219 "Ion Turret" : linked 'STR ' 3491 is missing (outfit LC plural name)
      • oütf 220 "Ion Gun" : linked 'STR ' 3092 is missing (outfit name)
      • oütf 220 "Ion Gun" : linked 'STR ' 3292 is missing (outfit LC name)
      • oütf 220 "Ion Gun" : linked 'STR ' 3492 is missing (outfit LC plural name)

You need to create STR resources to name these. Otherwise, once you start playing, the names will be missing. BTW, if the outfits are not available to the player this doesn't actually matter.

      • wëap 174 "Blade Bay" : linked 'snd ' 199 is missing

I think this one could actually cause a crash. You've referenced a sound that isn't there. Either place the correct sound at that ID, or reference one that does exist.

      • wëap 175 "Ion Turret" : ID of linked 'spďn' resource out of range (sprite ID should be less or equal to 262)

This will cause an immediate crash when it tries to access this weapon (or on startup). Use formula calc which is included with plug checker to work out the correct ID.

      • wëap 175 "Ion Turret" : linked 'spďn' 461 is missing

This will cause a crash - you need to include the correct spin. Probably you have included the spin and have misreferenced it, which would explain both this and the previous message.

      • wëap 176 "Ion Gun" : ID of linked 'spďn' resource out of range (sprite ID should be less or equal to 262)
      • wëap 176 "Ion Gun" : linked 'spďn' 461 is missing

      Same problem as above

      Hope this helps.

      Regards

      Martin

      Friendly Advice :

      1.STOP USING EV-EDIT !!!!!! arrrgh !!!
2.Take everything that DYNA Systems (fine but v.perfectionist ) plug checker spews out at you with a dash of salt. Most of it is just to be "EV'ly correct" but is not needed.
3.READ the EV Bible FULLY. It should answer most of your questions.

Most of these are minor problems, use these comments as a guide and good luck with your plug

      • shďp 180 "Death Blade" : linked 'PICT' 3052 is missing (ship target)
*you have not put in a target picture for that ship (or you have but it is not resource number 3052)

      • shďp 180 "Death Blade" : linked 'PICT' 5352 is missing (ship communication)
you have not put in a hail picture for that ship (or you have and it is resource number 5352

      • shďp 180 "Death Blade" : linked 'STR ' 3652 is missing (ship short name)
      • shďp 180 "Death Blade" : linked 'STR ' 3852 is missing (ship communication name)
You are missing some of this ship's STR's (descriptive text pieces). Nothing too major but you should really have them in if your ship is going to be purchasable or hailable

    • I have never found plug checker to be a useful tools because it reports things that aren't an issue. For example, you don't put in a graphic for you "Alien Death Ship" because the player will never have a chance to buy or talk to it. The best checker is to close your plug, launch EV/O and go see if anything is a problem in the game. Of course, plug checker might be more useful for small plugs, which I have never created.

Oh, EVO Man, the first time I checked my plug there where several thousand errors.

    • One thing I might add here is that SND 199 being missing isn't a problem, disregard that one. It looks like you've given that wëap sound -1, for "silent but deadly," which is perfectly valid. Plug Checker must be looking at that and thinking you want SND 199, when the weapon is really silent. Come on, the rest of you, I don't even use Plug Checker, and I caught that. 😉

    • I hate to say it, but for things like the STRs for the ship transponder names and all that good stuff, but... EV-Edit is remarkably useful for that sort of thing. I can say without too much hesitation that I am not very good at all with the STR resources in Res-Edit.

Otherwise... um... Well, some advice/comments- you don't exactly need to have the correct size for things... As whoever said, EVO WILL scale it...usually...i think... Admittedly it doesn't always look great... But there are programs which will help you immensely with... um... Well, it sounds incredibly stupid, but programs that help you tell what size 100x100 is. GraphicConverter will show you the exact dimensions of a picture. Many programs do this, but do not have such a useful/easy 'Trim' function... Also, make sure that your pic IDs correspond to the correct shďp ID. Unlike spobs, the ship resource doesn't include something like "custom pic ID". ...

    • EV-Edit, while it would be an excellent program were it no so buggy etc., is best for making quick "prototypes" of what you want to make. If you don't try to make a huge amount of things in it, it works fine.

I don't know about small plugs, but I could never have produced my plugins without plug checker - and good beta testers. In a large plugin you can play for hours and hours without a particular error surfacing unless you are particularly looking for it. Your beta testers will come up with everything which is thread related, but even they might miss things which the more adventurous players eventually discover, or which just happen to come up.

Also, a lot of EVO's problems will simply result in a crash on start-up - it can take a long time to find out what if you're forced to look through every resource to find something that doesn't add up. Plug checker will take you straight there.

I don't think any of these are EV-Edit related problems - they all seem to be human error or omission.
