    • New Espeidia

Some of you may remember a TC I was working on a while back for Override called Espeidia. No, it's not dead, but rather has been put on hold untill the release of NOVA. I've done this because A: NOVA has more features for me to implement, and B: I'll be able to take atvantage of the cool NOVA editors to speed up development. In the meentime, I'm updating all the graphics to better fit into NOVA. I'll post one of those on the EV gallery as soon as I figure how to get a good rendering out of Animation Master.

The basic plotline for Espeidia is as follows:

_For several millennia, the Zorian empire has governed a sizable chunk of the Zori galaxy alone and uncontested. However Zoria is currently having some major problems. The empire has just rid itself of Emperor Walahandi, one of the worst rulers ever to sit on the Zorian throne. While Walahandi is gone, the uproar he caused by limiting the people's rights is not. As the government keeps the general public blissfully unaware, Terrorism is on the rise, bands of rebels riot in the streets, and the first whisperings of revolution are in the air. The newly appointed Emperor, Talle Iorinin, already has some major problems on his hands.
However Zoria's internal problems are rapidly forgotten when a large and mysterious army of starships emerge from the depths of space, previously thought to be uninhabited, and begin attacking the Zorian homeworld with extreme prejudice. Within days, Zoria is brought to it's knees, and Emperor Talle is forced to destroy his own planet in order to prevent the mysterious attackers from capturing the technology that could be found there (Access to this technology would allow the invaders to dominate all of Zorian space). Unable to face the Horror of what he has done, Talle flees, taking with him the one and only copy of Encyclopedia Zoria, a massive database containing the collective knowledge, philosophy, history, and technology of all Zoria.
All is not as bad as it first appears however. Within months, many of the former Zorian colonies have united in arms against the invaders. Under the leadership of of general Delphi Morsed, the Brethren of Gelmachin is formed out of what's left of Zoria. This new alliance is powerful enough to hold the attackers at bay.
And then comes the biggest surprise of all. The mysterious invaders are humans! Well... sort of. The group call themselves the DPO (Dark Psionic Order), and they are made up of gifted paranormals who are fiercely loyal to their leader, Dotu Sate, and hate Zoria with a ferocity unparalleled anywhere.
Why do they hate Zoria so much? According to Sate, the Zorian government did her people a terrible injustice many centuries ago. Although she won't tell you the exact nature of that injustice, Delphi confirms that there was some persecution of Psionics by Zoria in the past.

The choice is now yours, captain. Will you choose to stay with Delphi and rebuild Zoria? Or will you trust Dotu Sate and investigate her claims? Or, perhaps you might seek out the Missing Zorian emperor and help him use his Database to form a brand new empire among the stars. Zoria has fallen, and the galaxy is in turmoil. It's all up to you now... _

Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.

    • Ah, yes... I remember the excellent Zorian ship graphics you posted over at the Image Gallery months back. Glad to hear you never dropped it. Plot sounds good...

    • Sounds cool, look foreward to playing it.
      One question though-
Is the plotline going to be open ended, like the unmodified games, or more like the Frozen Heart style playable story (although obviously it will have to branch somewhat more than FH/FF)?

      ------------------
If at first you don't succeed, use more duct tape.

    • There will be three major factions you can play for, each with it's high and low points.

      Gelmachin:
Under the command of Delphi Morsed, your objective is to strenthen Zorian defenses, and push the DPO out of Zorian space. You must first use your deplomacy skills to bring all the former Zorian colonys into the fold, then you will have to lead the Gelmachin fleet against the DPO.

Good: Uses Zorian starships and Technology, which are the most advanced in the galaxcy.

Bad: Because Zoria is gone, their ships and weapons prices have skyrocketed. Nothing will come cheap if you play for Gelmachin, though if you earn Delphi's favor you may end up with a sizable bank account.

      DPO:
The psionics of the DPO are angry with Zoria because of the holocaust like conditions they where forced to live under 300 years before. Dotu Sate is particularlly angry with Emperor Talle because he destroyed the planet she hoped to conquer. The first few missions of this string involve some detective work, pieceing togther exactly what happened to the Psionics to make them so angry. After you prove your loyalty, Sate sends you on a hunt for emperor Talle, whom she would like to see dead.

Good: Larger DPO ships have gravitonic drives, which gives them incredible maunverability and speed. DPO tech. is relatively cheap, and they control many worlds containing profitable trade routes.

Bad: DPO ships are fairly weak, and fighters with out G-drives are relatively sluggish.

      Espeidia:
If you manage to find Emperor Talle, he will ask you to assist him in forming a new empire. Aiding Talle will require a whole range of skills. You must scout out a suitable location, engage in diplomatic relations to get support, fend off the DPO and make peace with Gelmachin (Delphi has gotten a little power hungry, and is none to happy to learn that Talle, the rightful emperor of Zoria, still lives)

Good: Ships and tech are well ballanced, and relatively inexpensive. Talle in particular is a valuable ally, and his ship (which escorts you on some missions) is extremely powerfull. Also, once Espeidia is up and running, it quickly becomes the most powerfull government in the game.

Bad: Talle is difficult to locate, and you won't get results or payment for your efforts for a while.

There are also some other minor governments that will help you:

Earth (NASA) - Our own blue green planet. NASA ships are well armored, and make excelent freighters or deep space exploration vessels. Also, earth has some technologies avalable nowhere else (Cloak penatrating infared scanners, neuclear weapons, and ceramic heat shield, to name a few).

Cylobits - Insectoid creatures with some valuable technology at their disposal. You must earn their allegance before you can use it however. Three main races: Cyclarians, Cerovians, and Narivians.

Spidillions - (not really a government) 7 ultra powerfull mutidimensional energies that 7 specific humans can channel. They are manifested in the form of gemstones, and each has a specific mental trait and power. Two of them you have already seen, though you don't realize it yet... 😉

    • BTW, Captn LeGrenadier, I did not forget you ! I am still working on the three theme songs "Emperor's March", "Desolation" and "Yet another Glorious Day" for your plug-in. I was very busy but I think I can finish them for christmas.

--- I will probably be using a variation on the YAGD song as theme song for the Silent Ruins of Earth plug-in. But have no fear, the melody will be similar but it will be a different song.
