    • Programming help: Novice in NEED

I have a thorn in my side. Perhaps the programming veterans could alleviate...
I have made some meager attempts to create other worlds for the EV:O galaxy, but have been twice failed. I create a story line and begin making missions, and I even create some worlds and a system. And I also create a governement for the worlds. And some ships. And all the good stuff. But then when I go to test, I am unable to land on my world in order to get in the bar where my specific mission is to be accepted. The reason why I cannot land is because I am a felon. In an attempt to fix the problem I have attempted to make the government highly tolerant, but to no avail. I have also attempted to change the government to a preexisting on of which my ship would be on good terms. Failing this, I am left perplexed, thinking the problem lies someplace in the system or planer, and not in the government at all. Any help?
      Your humble diciple:

Are you using (or have you tried) a new pilot? Strange things can happen with a pre-existing pilot file.

    • Make sure you have the govt of the spob (planet) set correctly, the MinCoolness is 0 or lower, and the 'can land' bit in the flags is set (no to mention that it's habitated and has a bar). Make sure the govt resource is properly created for the attributes and tolerances and such (low crimetol, positive initialrec, not xenophobic, no hate flags.). Make sure the system is configured with the right government and the planet and system reference each other correctly. You probably do not want to link the government of this planet with any others that exist already to avoid issues with your pilot (ally and enemy).

good luck, if this doesn't help you might post a link to download the plug for testing.

    • If you're using Res-Edit, try using EVO Map. It's much quicker and easier.

    • I believe I see the culprit...

Did you set the Nav1-Nav4 fields in the aprropriate s˙st resource to a valid (and correct) spöb resource? If you do not set these fields, the planet will show up in the system, but you will not be able to land on it, and other ships won't see it... according to the bible and my first attempts at plugins long ago...

BTW, plugs really don't have anything to do with programming 🙂

    • For a newbie plugin maker, i suggest using EV Edit. It helped me make my first plugs, and it will hepl you untill ready for resedit

Ignore this, EV Edit will just make it harder in the long run when it eats your plug and otherwise screws you up. Schmelta-V might be easier for missions to start with, and EVO Dev Map (as mentioned by Gav) sounds good, though I've never used either myself, I just stick with ResEdit.

As for your specific problem here, I can't think of anything to add beyond what's already been suggested.

    • I would suggest instead of making everything at once, like missions and a bunch of systems, is to first make the most stripped down plug you can make. One spob, one sys, one ship, etc. and test what your changes have done frequently. That way you can tweak your one system first and once you get a handle on it, start making others. And checking frequently allows you to target a problem immediatly instead of building ontop of problems(like if you put a wrong value into field and keep doing in to each system).

Well, as someone once said, avoid EV-Edit like the plauge. It jacks up resources, doesn't let you save, quits often, won't let you make good planets, you have to pay $10 (US), but is a good program except for it's mass of bugs. I suggest using EVO Developer's Map, availible (url="http://"http://members01.chello.se/warlordpontus/ev")http://members01.che...arlordpontus/ev(/url) . It's really good, and free. For missions, use Schmelta-V ( (url="http://"http://www.afn.org/~afn02365/")http://www.afn.org/~afn02365/(/url) ).

    • I'd have to agree with all who said the EVO developer's map. It's a great piece of work...... not perfect, it has bugs of course, but it's the best darned one out there so far. I used EV-Edit because I didn't have the EVO map for the systems,(EV edit is the only all-around editor, but it has really bad problems) so I'm adding in spobs with the EVO map...

    • Well, I gotta say I am impressed with the amount of support that is available to those with the interest. I am going to try some of these things out, and I will post what the problem is just in case anyone else had it. Thanks.

Oh, and thank you Madman for the links. I was wondering where I was going to get the programs. (The second link is bad though...)
