      Yet another pers related question: can a pers be targeted from a mission's "special ship" field? I'm interested in having a mission where the player actually hunts a pers, not a ship with a special name. Anyway, has anyone tried a negative dude value?

    • I don't think the dude fields in a mission can refer to anything other than dudes. If you want to make a mission where the player hunts a ship that is configured differently than standard, your best bet is to make a separate ship resource like EV Override did for the Nadir and the Igazra armed with Igadzra beams.

      IIRC the bible specifically says to have special ship fields point only to a standard dude resource. But you could experiment some and see what happens.

      If I wanted to make a static mission, yes. But I'm trying to make adaptive plugins, and that method won't work. Thanks, though.

    • Hrm. Here's what I did in Mille Terrae:

      I set a mission where you have to destroy this one guy. Since I wanted to make it a challenge and was out of ship resources, I made a pers of the guy (a really upgraded Histaaki Missile Destroyer, basically), named it after the guy, and set it up in a specific system. Then, I made a fleet of dudes that would normally be in that system the target ship, with the goal to observe them.

      The player, in theory, hasn't opened the mission up in ResEdit or whatever and thinks he has to destroy the pers. Ignorant of the trick being played on him, he looks for the pers, kills it, manages to observe the other ships while at it, and completes the mission.

      Yes, I love being cruel to the player 🙂
