    • Ships done in POV-Ray.....?

Who knows of any? For that matter, what do you guys think of the program?

    • I've spent quite a large amount of time looking for the awesome dreadnought I remember seeing in the Image Gallery (made with POV-Ray), but it seems that the graphic is no longer online. :frown:

As for POV-Ray in general, I've heard many complaints about it, but it is often compared to Mechanisto in terms of power.

      ------------------
      -Cap'n Skyblade
-Battle for Sol - Episode III: The Worlds Beyond the Milky Way - coming soon -

    • I think I remember seeing a short review of it in a MacAddict back in the original iBook issue (you know, the one with Max being crushed by a tangerine iBook on the cover?)... It said that POV-Ray was a really good beginning tool, but because it didn't have animation power, wasn't good enough. It gave it a few points though, much higher than it gave Bryce or Amapi. But, my memory is faulty. It could have been a different program, I don't know for sure.

That can't be it. It has basic and scripted animation power, and the option of outputting to a Quicktime movie.

The fact that it uses a text-based interface and has limited modeling abilities may be what cause some people to dislike it, but it's FREE, and there are low-cost modelers that can output to its document format, so I'll probably stick with it until somebody shows me something better.

    • Hm. Povray. See: (url="http://"http://www.rit.edu/~jxc1906/")http://www.rit.edu/~jxc1906/(/url)
The only ship there that isn't POV-Ray is the one in the large scenic, and I can send you the source code for most of them if you want it.

    • Yeah, I haven't done much with animations; I originally got POV-Ray so that I could make images for EV, and prior to EVN there hasn't been much use for models with moving parts.

Could I see the sorts of things you're making?

    • You've set yourself quite a challenge there. I'd like to see what you've actually made, too.

      Good luck, and have fun.

You're right. I read the article and it was Raydream. Sorry about the confusion. :frown:

It sounds sort of cool though. Where can you get a copy of POV-Ray?

    • Out of all the free software I think Mechanisto is the best. After about 3 days I was able to create all the ships on this page (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/whamman2000/")www.geocities.com/whamman2000/(/url)

Wham!Man - The original and still the best

    • Hey man, I'm a POVRay fiend, and have even surprised myself. Anyway, you could make that gouf, but it wouldn't look exactly right. With the right amount of time, you could make the gouf, and zakus using similar models. The trick with Gundam is to cheat. Use legs, arms, shoulders, heads, guns, and hands as many times as you possibly can. It'll save you a lot of time. If you want my help, just ask. Some of my work is here: (url="http://"http://www.desktopstarships.com/NpImagepages/3.html")http://www.desktopst...agepages/3.html(/url) Just write back.
