    • Strata base 3.5 released !

For the smaller budgets, I just wanted to inform you that a new version of Strata Free, Strata Base 3.5 is out. The Strata 3d product line will now be offered in three versions: base (free and available for download or boxed version for small price), plus, that includes much more plug-ins, textures and functionality (for around 300 $) and pro that is good enough to compete with the hi-end titles... (around 850 $ for this one).

Strata Base 3.5 will replace Strata 3d, previously offered in version 3.0.2. I still think Strata is an excellent line for beginners and (just as Cinema 4D), you can follow the product line from bottom to top as you become an always better 3d artist.

      (edit start)

I was foolish ! I just tested the thing: its s**** don't get caught ! It removes lots of features from 3.0.2 including animation, metaball, skin, expert texture control etc... that were all moved to the plus and pro versions... Strata 3.5 is just a useless shell for pro and plus advertising. Keep your good ol' 3.0.2 if you were working with it!

    • Thanks for the warning... I was about to check out 3.5. I'm just starting to become competent in strata 3d 3.0.2.

    • It seems they are taking the free graphics software away from us! First Infini-D, now Strata 3D! Glad I grabbed a copy o' Strata before this hapened 🙂

    • And what I find even more s**** is the BIG difference between plus and pro. Pro has become a very mature and useable plug... With the easy to use interface, Strata 3D, even in its pro form, is almost a child toy. And it includes all you need to make more than acceptable ships, outfits, persons, etc... (boleans, many simple texture types (corrosion, dust, cloud, flame--this one needs amelioration, hair etc...) But the pro version remains over 800 $ and the plus version, is 150 $. The plus is basically (or almost) the same as what we got FOR FREE in the 3.0.2 version....

    • You can (or could last week) upgrade from Vision or 3d to Pro for $250, or 180 UK Pounds.

I did this, and am not regretting it.

Actually, I think Strata have made the right decision. 3d offered far, far more than any other free 3d software, and there wasn't a particularly obvious reason to take the upgrade to Pro. I know that for the impoverished plugin maker this is bad news, but the base version is still offering a higher level of functionality than the old Vision 4.0, which was the previous free version before 3d.

BTW, the DV software seems fairly nice, and is a bit of an upgrade over iMovie.

    • I will be sticking with 3.0.2 Free for the time being (until I can afford the $800 for pro). I like the sounds of Plus, it seems a reasonable step up from 3.0.2 Free with more effects, booloean (I think) and other stuff, and it is more than reasonable at around $150.

I think that Base looks schuh.

I agree with you Turner, that the Strata hi-end 3.5pro is truly competitive... It is lots of power in an easy to master interface.
Personally I use many 3d programs in a very amateur way but what I like with Strata is its simplicity of use.

    • BTW... has anyone already encountered the problem with Strata pro (or any Strata 3d software) that if you entered numbers in any fields, it said it was non-numeric characters and ignored them... That way you can't render or texture anything... Has this anything to do with the installation of Mac OS X/ 9.1 software ?

I dont think its to do with 9.1 because I use that and it works fine. I have never had that problem.
