    • I need help Creating a plugin

I am new to makeing plugins, and need lots of help.

      ------------------

    • First of all, you need a good editor. Res-Edit works well, is free, and can be acquired (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=ev&category;=utilities&display;=date&page;=1")here(/url). You'll also need something else from the TPH Develpoment kit (the Res-Edit templates, which you'll need unless you want to be dealing with hex). There's also a good guide to Res-Edit (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=ev&category;=utilities&display;=date&page;=1")here(/url) also. It's called 'Res-EditBeginnersGuide,' but there are a few things that change when you're developing a plugin for EVO (if you need the info, just email me at (url="http://"mailto:psychothefirst@yahoo.com")mailto:psychothefirst@yahoo.com(/url)psychothefirst@yahoo.com

    • Oh, and welcome to the boards. 🙂

    • (I also posted this over at the EV forum...)

It depends. If you are currently just planning the plugin, then make a few sketches of ships, write some missions, create a good storyline etc., and that will get the foundation done (and it can take awhile). Then after that's all behind you, start out with some graphics here and there, from 3D ships to use in the plugin to landing picts. Make a nice universe in which the player can travel throughout...And that's all put in short. 🙂

If you are seriously considering making a plugin, go with Apple's infamous program editor, ResEdit. It can do just about anything, and will do anything when it comes to plugin development. While you're at it, download Matt Burch's EV Bible, which you can find on the downloads page (along with ResEdit). With the EV Bible, creating a plugin can be a piece of cake within a few days.

Well, that's the story in short. Please feel free to throw some questions down, and hope this helps. 🙂

    • I would also recommend EVO Developer's Map (or EV Dev Map if you're doing an EV plug) created by Pontus. I've yet to find a bug in the EVO Dev Map program and it has proved a great help. You can get it (url="http://"http://members01.chello.se/warlordpontus/ev/")here(/url). And before you ask any questions on the board, read the EVO 1.02 Bible, most (if not all) answers can be found there (though there are always people here willing to help out, myself being one of them).

    • Yes, the EV Developer's Map is an excellent tool. Just be sure that if you're developing a plugin for Override, that you rename the data files as EV files. Otherwise, it won't work...

...Or use the EVO dev map. It's available on Pontus's webpage (look under EVO links and you'll find it). If EV, use EV developers map.

I never even realized they were two different programs...I though whenever people referred to the "EV Developer's Map," they were technically also speaking of the EVO developer's Map...

    • Yep. They're different. Poor Pontus, nobody noticed it :frown:.

Hehe...Which one do you use, or do you use both of them?

    • Hint. Use EV-dit only if you're desperate or skilled with it. I use it because I have need to as it is part of my combined plug making. Oh and welcome to the boards.

I only did dev work for EV once, and I used EV dev map for it. For EVO I use EVO dev map.It feels right (plus it allows all the systems EVO allows :D). I wonder if Pontus will make an EVN dev map? Or even better (no extra work needed) if the R&R; editors automatically have a similar tool... 🙂

Does the EVO Developer's Map allow you to see the entire Override map?

Yup. That it does. It also lets you see it according to govts, commodities, tech level. And a few other things that I can't remember right now.
