When I make a ship in Mechanisto and then transfer the picture to EVO, the colors get all messed up. I know that it is because EVO runs in 256 colors, but how do I fix this problem?

It's not a mechanisto problem.. It's just because you need to convert the sprites into 256 system colors. They the don't get messed up in 256 system colors, then they won't look messed up in EVO. If you do look messed up in 256 system colors, try changing the shade the color of the ship slightly... experiment...

So when I use mechanisto, which color selector should I use. I've been using the crayon picker one but when the shadows are used during rendering it makes tons of more colors. Should I not select shadows when I render?

leave shadows on! hehe... hes telling you to open the pics in a application like photoshop, or graphic converter, and convert from millions, to 256. i find its best to convert to thousands first, then to 256 - it has better quality that way.

Even still, some colors will come out better than others. Colors like blue, green, red, and yellow work well. However, I have had a great amount of difficulty making orange look good.

How do you change from millions to thousands to 256 colors in Graphic Converter? I just made a cube in Mechanisto and tried to find a way to render the image in 256 colors but couldn't find a way. It seems kinda wierd not to be able to render in 256 colors, there's go to be a way.
