    • A good alien name

I'm beginning to layout a plug-in, that introduces a new alien species. I need a good name for them. It shouldn't be anything cute or stupid or anything like that. These aliens want to exterminate all species they come across. I can't think of a good alien name.

Anybody got some good ones out there?

Poor inhabitants of Mongoly (Ulan-Baator = Oulan-Bator (capital city of Mongoly))
Also, a light allusion to Voinians would be fun.

Tip: try combining some of our suggestions.

    • I would just open SimpleText and randomly hit keys for a while, then read over what was typed. Remember that you don't actually have to have an 'alien-sounding' name, but just need something for them to be called by players/humans. Maybe just use animal names if you know what they look or behave like. Also take into account that many names sound stupid, like a cliche from star trek or something, so try and pick a good one.

    • nwegner - not a bad idea! However, do you know of an animal that wants to destroy every other species on the planet? I sure don't!

Now there are too many! I'll use quite a few of these, and maybe come up with some crazy one! Thanks a lot!

      More names are welcome.

Ants? They can get pretty nasty... I don't know, pick something. It doesn't have to be an animal that actually can destroy every other thing, but that hunts well or sounds cool. Wolverines, lynx, latin names for other animals, something.

    • Okay, here's some stuff on ants:

      m-w.com's definition:
      Main Entry: ant
      Pronunciation: 'ant
      Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English ante, emete, from Old English ćmette; akin to Old High German Ameiza
      Date: before 12th century
: any of a family (Formicidae) of colonial hymenopterous insects with a complex social organization and various castes performing special duties.

One hit from a Google search for Formicidae (want more scientific sites): (url="http://"http://ag.arizona.edu/tree/eukaryotes/animals/arthropoda/hexapoda/hymenoptera/apocrita/aculeata/formicidae/formicidae.html")http://ag.arizona.ed...formicidae.html(/url)

      Some names from there:
      Aenictinae
      Aenictogitoninae
      Dorylinae
      Ecitoninae
      Cerapachyinae
      Leptanilloidinae
      Apomyrminae
      Leptanillinae
      Ponerinae
      Aneuretinae
      Dolichoderinae
      Formicinae
      Myrmeciinae
      Nothomyrmeciinae
      Pseudomyrmecinae
      Myrmicinae
      Formiciinae

As you see, you get many of the same type of name this way. If you want some more varied ones, you can take a dictionary (hard copy) and randomly open pages, looking for words. Or do something else, I don't care.

    • LOL, ok, here's how to say each of those names:

      Augh’Ráuűght (Awg-Rawt)

      Dh’yd-hifĺv (Did-heefav)

      Ghirt’Suhbh (Girt-Sub)

      Caliuh (Caleeooh)

    • Use things you know for inspiration, that's how I got these names. How about The:

Radahmej (Jem'Hadar backwards, the Jem'Hadar are aliens in Star Trek: DS9)
Holnessians (dervied from my last name)
Wiperialla (just made that one up)
      Malibury (derived from my hometown)
Lumberians (there's a lot of wooden furniture in my room)
Imacdvar (derived from what I'm typing this on)
Kettlechipsim (what I'm eating right now)
      Junko (what my printer is)
Eleanora (from my best friend's name)

And if that doesn't work, you can fall back on using generic names that fit governments of different types, like:

The Confederation (not very original, though)
      The Cooperative
      The Imperium
      The Alliance
      The Federated States of _______

      ------------------
The last time I was on this board, the price of dumb questions was really high.

    • Little tip: you don't want the names to be too complex, such as those with circles on top of them ;). Here are some ideas (pitiful as they are):

      Linea
      Intrecho
      K'Narcivasz
      Vinagoud

    • How about this one:

Try reading that backwards snicker snicker

Sounds kinda like the 'Gorn' from Star Trek TOS. Although they only appeared in one episode and a couple of the comics... One of the 'forgotten races'...
