    • Textures?

How do you do textures in Strata 3D (if you can) And I mean custom textures 🙂

      Thanks

    • Hi Jive, if someone doesn't answer your question I will when I get home. Right now I'm just going to bring this to the top so I don't loose it 😉

    • You don't. You make texures in a graphics app like Photoshop.

    • I'm confused.... So you have to first create a simple (or complicated) 3D image on the computer, and then you add the texture, using a different program? Where do you get these textures from the other program? Like, do you just create them, or do you have to get them from a photo (ie: Photoshop)? I'm kinda new to graphics designing. Everything seems kinda complicated to me...

    • I'm kinda with Rogue... how, what!!?!! How do you do textures in Photoshop? Do you just start drawing them out and somehow import them? Please, expand on this 🙂

      Metzen help!!! 😉

    • Create the textures in Photoshop (if you are lucky enough to have it, unlike me) or some other 2d graphics app,
      then export them as PICTs.
Then, in the textures section of the resource pallete in Strata, click new, then select surface texture.
In the window that pops up, click map, and open your saved PICT.

    • So we make a picture that looks like a texture, then open that as a texture in your 3D program? 😕

      ------------------
Gliig bilgy tij fyture nubbulo zoo zo exat qoimlee roilys glop!!

    • Draw the texture in any paint program, then save the file. Import it into the 3D program via shaders and apply shader to ship. Render...

    • Huh.... oh, well.... I guess I'll understand it sometime...

    • It helps to make a simple square grid and apply it to your model first. That will help you figure out where each piece of your texture will go.

"I don't want to insist on it, Dave, but I am incapable of making an error" - HAL 9000

    • or go to textures in Strata and click on new then click on new surface texture. Then you can make a simple color texture and make it as bright, as glossy, as transparent as you like it. Also you can make the look of it seem like brass, or wood, or metal or titanium, etc. But all of this is if you don't have a paint program or you don't want a picture as a texture. I use simple surface textures all the time to give my models the right feel to them.

      Cheers,

    • Hey Metzen, you have a lot of tutorials already, don't you?
Why don't you just creat and index on your site so anyone can visit your 'brilliant' tutorials?

    • I don't have the time right now. I need big money fairly quickly and am all out of options except for working a couple of different jobs. The only time I have between jobs I usually sleep or pull a full day of staying up and go on the web for the few hours I get to sleep.

Wish I could help... But my allowance isn't kinda low on budget right now 🙂

      Arrrrrrr, matey!!!!

    • Low on money, eh? I'm getting rich over here, I've got $500 saved for a school trip to Washington DC and New York. I've also got $120 dollars for spending($95 now because I just bought Two CD's(MI-2 soundtrack and Lincin Park))

Anyway, I think I know how to do textures now. As soon as I get home from school tomarrow I plan to rip open a brand new 533megahertze G4 with a read/write CD drive, 256megabytes of RAM, and a 40gigabyte hard drive. Once opened, I will procede to hook it up and imediately put all of my EV stuff and 3D programs on it. Then I will see if this texture stuff works(I'me currently running on a 68k, I'm pretty lucky to get any 3D programs to work on it).

      I can't wait 'till my G4 arrives!!!!!!!!!

      ------------------
      Countdown 'till my G4 arrives:
      Tomarrow
AAAAAAGGHHHH!!!! It's too long to wait!!!!
I can see it now, 533 megaherze G4 processer with an incredible 256 megs of RAM and a 40 gig hard drive.

StrataVision 4.0 works on 68k Macs FYI. If someone else would bother to dig out the old link I had for it, you'd have a fairly powerful modeller/renderer. It needs either a 68030 w/68881 FPU(?) or 68040 (full, not 68LC040)

I used it on that our old MacIIci/cx for the longest time... sigh good old nostalgia

please stop, I'm stuck with a 180MHz StarMax 3000. You're making me EXTREMELY jelous. I WANT A 733MHZ G4 with CD/DVD-RW, GIGABIT ETHERNET, and all the rest. BUT THAT ISN"T GOING TO HAPPEN FOR A LONG WHILE YET!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH.
