    • Stupid pictures!

I'm working on a plug-in that is a follow-up for an EVO chronicle I'm writing. It is a total conversion plug-in and has some great graphics. However, the pictures always disappear. I'm left staring at a black and white screen with no ships, planets, or asteriods anywhere. Does anyone have any clue why it isn't working right. Some advice would be helpful. Thanks!

    • Bummer...
If something like that happens to me (it happens a lot) it's usually a sign I screwed something up...
Maybe you punched in the wrong ID's of the pics or so
or maybe you just wrote the plug with EV-Edit
Try going through verything with ResEdit again and see if you -somehow- screwed sth up
If nothing works just start the plug again.

      Two words: Plug Checker.

If it's not in the Add-ons file, get it here
      (url="http://"http://www.ixoft.com/")http://www.ixoft.com/(/url)

Using Plug Checker can save hous of work going over resources indivdually. Otherwise you are going to have to go through all the resources in your plug and verify that all the resource ID numbers are correct and all linked correctly to other resources.

For instance, a syst resource has to have an ID in the correct range, and for the syst to have spobs, both the syst and spob resource must point to each other. Then the spob must have a sprite and a mask and a spin all with correct ID numbers, and a landing picture with correct ID#. If you want asteroids in the system, that has to be specified in the syst resource, if you want dudes in the system, they also must be entered in the syst, and of course you have to have created valid dudes. And of course systems must be linked to other systems with hyperlinks, or you cannot travel anywhere in your universe.

I suggest a first step is to check all the resources associated with your starting system (ID# 128) and see if you find any problems there, that may show you what to look for in other places.

    • How large (megabytes) are your plug's files? If they are really big I would up the ram partition for EVO (get info on it with the finder, and find the memory info, then set the two fields to something around 30 000kB or40 000kB depending on how much ram you want to give it). hth.
