    • Get ResEdit...

Simple enough...open the plug (with templates)...there are your IDs listed under the appropriate catergory...

If you have yet to learn about ResEdit, consult the EV/O bible...become religious and learn...or you can read the EV Developer's Faqs.

      PEACE YO!

    • Ok..... I didn't understand a word you just said... Sorry. What plug with templates? The sample plug doesn't have anything it it, and the template has wierd DWNM things in all the fields... me confused.

There's nothing in there cause it's the developer's job to put stuff in...and if you're only looking for ID numbers...then open the Data files and get em. Don't F-up your data files though...copy and paste...

    • Well, u're a newcomer to the EV plug making world, right?
When I started I hardly worked with ResEdit
I worked with EV Edit (Shock)
it may be really buggy, but it sure helps you learn allot quicker. Download EV Edit and try things out, when you are a little advanced, try using ResEdit.
As you can see on the web board a new editor is being created called EVOGod, it's allot less buggy than EV Edit
Well, try to stay away from ResEdit, until you completely understand the resource stuff... Other than that... I hope this helps! 🙂

P.S. For your plug, create a flët resource and do the necessary stuff there, and make sure you do everything EXACTLY right. Maybe you typed something into the wrong field or something.

When I first started using Resedit, I found the following guide to be invaluable:

      (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl?path=ev/utilities&file;=ResEditBeginnersGuide.sit.hqx")http://www.ambrosias...rsGuide.sit.hqx(/url)

This guide, the EV/O Formula Calc (sorry, I don't have the link handy, but I know it's available on Pontus Ilbring's website), and Resedit should get you on the right track.

Thank you for your cooperation. Good night.

    • I've got the id #s. Now... where do i type them in. I copied and opened the Data files. I open the sys. and everything is in neat little fields. Unfortunetly, the next time i open it, IT'S IN HEX! How do i get it back to the convenient little forms? Actually, it was just a fluk that one time, but i need that interface back! Hex numbers can't be worked with.

To get rid of the hex fields, you need to have the "TMPL" resources (templates) in EV Data open--these templates allow Resedit to translate all hex into workable "convenient little forms". That one "fluke" you described was most likely your editing your Plug without having EV Data open. An easy solution is to copy all TMPL resources in EV Data and put them into your plugin. That way, you can edit them easily whenever you need to.

One other thing--beware of a small annoyance in Resedit: If you open your plug and edit its resources with the EV Data Templates open, you can edit your plug with the fields, but if you close EV Data before closing the resources you're editing, you'll get an "Unknown field type found" error in Resedit, forcing you to close your plug without saving (nasty). Having the TMPL resources in your plug will eliminate this too.

      ------------------
If I write a letter to be put in a time capsule to be opened when time travel is possible, and if in my letter I ask for some item to be sent back in time to the point I sealed my time capsule, wouldn't that item appear just as I seal the capsule? Just a thought...

    • Here's another tip: Open up the EV Templates file and copy the TMPL resources (select them and press Cmd-C). Then open up the ResEdit Preferences file (System Folder --> Preferences --> ResEdit) and paste (Cmd-V) the TMPLs into the Prefs file. Then you don't have to bother copying them into your plug-in all the time.

    • I'm having mojor problems that haven't caused problems yet, but will be b/c I used the ötfit editor and found that I needed to change the resource id #'s of some graohics, fixing the outfit graphics problems are no problem now, but how do I know if I've got grahics fo the weapons sprites and masks with the correct id numbers. Same goes for the shipyard pics, comm pics and target pics, how do I know that they've got the correct (and nonconflicting, this plug is meant to go with most non-TC plugs, including Rapscallius, which I'm building this plug into for development purposes) id #s and if they dodn't, how do I find out which are the right id#'s for them. For the plug development, I'm using resEdit alot, along with the most recent versions of EVO God, The Docks, and Ship Write. With ResEdit (I'm kind of a newbie, but I've used it to copy sound files and make spîn resources and its been a most invaluable tool) I have the öutfit editor copied and this was how I knew that I will have graphics problems, and need to find out if there are problems, where they are, and how to fix them.

      Cheers,
      Jedibrass
