    • HW even gives you a nilobject when you up the memory? Are you sure you're giving it enough? I think you have to give around 5-10MB extra, maybe more. Just experiment.

      Where the Hell's my roof?

    • I just downloaded Helian Wars again to see if I get a nilobject error when I up the memory and I found out two things.

First, give it 10000k of mem and it works fine.

Second, my game rocks. I haven't actually played it for a while as when you code your program usually doesn't work anyway. But it is really cool.

For those who know stuff - I'm redoing the in-game interface so it looks exactly like evo. Originally I had just one large spritesurface covering the entire screen and I used a graphics class to insert the side bar on the side. But this caused problems with trying to get my x and y values right so that I could write stuff in it like weapons and cargo. Also trying to make the radar works was just a nightmare as well. So now, thanks to RB3 I have one spritesurface for the game, a canvas for the side bar and another spritesurface over the canvas for the radar. This makes it so easy.

But I have a question. Should the spritesurfaces be an array, or should I make a class of spritesurface(can you do that?) and put all the code in that or should I just put separate code in each surface? Their code will be pretty much the same, although the radar won't need to turn or shoot and it only needs to display green dots for ships. Is there an easy way to make moving green dots? Should I use scroll?

      Expect more updates really soon.

    • I know your game rocks 😉

ok, i'll try upping the memory, but i still cant play online :frown:

btw, what exacly is your game? i thought that sebek was responsible for making the client and server...or is he just the networking guy, and you make the actual game...?

umm, how do we get to your IRC channel? what network is it on and stuff?

    • Yeah, sebek is the server/client guy. Server/client meaning networking. He is currently focusing on just that and he also has put in a little test game.

I originally just made a small two player game called helian wars and then we decided to join forces. So eventually I'll just chuck my game into his client.

    • PLEASE not windowed, not not never windowed.

i like to use my full monitor size...

i still dont understand EVOLib (i know very little about programming, so i hardly know what a library is...) and what it does, its not like a plugin for EVO, i mean, as a non-programmer, what can i do with it?

    • Who said anything about windows? It's just in one window and it's been set to fullscreen and no menubar.

Sebek's Lib is a set of realbasic classes which people can put in there programs to read EV/EVO plugins. So if you were, say, making a Multiplayer version of EVO in realbasic you could use EVOLib to read the EVO data files for you and put all the ships and missions into your game. Hang on, that's what we're doing.

Did you get Helian Wars working?

    • I must say that I am impressed. I seem to like the idea of a real window for spaceports rather than drawing them on the spritesurface. I tried doing it that way and failed miserably with all my x and y's turning on me.

Speaking of x and y's, sebek, do you know why:

      surface. scroll xforce, yforce

scrolls faster than the actual ship movement. And why does scroll suck so much anyway?

    • will there be a possibility of having the servers (planets) integrated by one big server, so you could fly around and join another persons server by landing on their planet, ect ect...

    • agreed.

although I don't really like the idea of each planet/system/government being separate servers. a G4 with OSX on T1 a connection should do the trick just fine.
